Don't have that much sympathy for Finn, he bowled pretty pish today.

hoping for a tamim special now
And they wanted to enforce the follow-on so there was no room to mess about and let Finn get the five-fer despite his gash bowling. Bresnan gets the job done. Excellent captaincy from Strauss there imo.
Agreed!
It's a useful lesson for a young bowler that when he bowls crap, he will be sent to some rope at the boundary. And no messing around with sentimental crap!

Norwood's on Fire
=/ Strauss takes Finn out of the attack. He's not bowled well, but he's on a 5fer, that's pretty harsh. To get replaced by Bresnan is the ultimate kick in the teeth too. He really doesn't deserve a wicket. Replacing him with Swann would have been fair enough, but Bresnan? Harsh.
What? You captain to win the match not to get someone a 5fer, it's not like he never gave him a chance. If we missed the follow-on you'd have been looking at a much increased chance of a draw. can't see us not winning now, barring significant interruptions

Love Tamim so much, but wish sometimes he'd exercise just a tiny modicum of restraint. Kid could be yer Banglas first genuine world class bat but he just tries to tee off from the word go.

His record shows that most of the time he tees off and some of the time he shuts up shop and defends. Doesn't really seem to have anything in between. Has worked for him though 1000 runs @ 37 is an excellent sign from such a young man.

I'd have given him 1 more over but told him to pitch the thing up. It also wasn't really the fact that he didn't get his 5fer that I was fussed about, more that it was Bresnan who came on to pick up a cheap wicket at the end of the innings. If it was Swann who came on I wouldn't have had an issue, but I just don't think Bresnan deserved a cheap wicket at the death after bowling so awfully on that first day. Not anything to bother arguing about though, pretty insignificant as far as the match goes. Just happy that we've enforced the follow-on.

Yeah, but a lot of those runs are off Tiny Tim, so they clearly don't count:ph34r:

Have only ever seen him in full-on Sehwag-lite mode, tbh.

Creamy straight drive as I type. Boy's got the potential to be so good. The other (inferior ) Athers just saying how much he enjoys watching him too.

Honestly, surely this has to be the last test match for Bres, keep him for limited-overs, but give someone else a shot.

Aye. Think it's the batting that makes him so attractive, but as we've seemingly determined to play 6 bats + Prior + Broad and Swanny I reckon it's an unnecessary consideration, tbh.

&, even if it's deemed a prerequisite, chaps like Woakes and Harris are no mugs with the willow either.
