*Official* Bangladesh in England

Not helping either side this, got to feel for the Bangladesh batsman having to come off and back on again.

Good stuff from Finn though.

The law as it's worded concerns danger to the batsmen.

Now, if England were targetting the Bangladeshis with short pitched stuff and they were struggling to pick it up, yes that's dangerous, but I don't see what the danger is.

The last 10 minutes or so have been a total farce.

They should be allowed to use the floodlights, I don't understand why that's been outlawed for this series.

So why exactly isn't Lords allowed to use it's floodlights? Seems to be rather unfair on well...pretty much everyone really. The England team will be frustrated because they can't polish off the innings as they would like to, the Bangladesh team will be frustrated because they can't settle at the crease, the spectators will be frustrated because they have already been deprived of much cricket thanks to natural causes today! And it could all be solved so simply. Seems rather intransigent to me.

It WAS an absolute beauty of a delivery from Finn, mind.

According to Nasser Hussain on Sky, 2 reasons.

1. Local resident's don't like them being on.

2. Old Trafford doesn't have lights, so it's to ensure conditions are as equal as possible.

The 2nd reason is a nonsense though. People in England play good money to see Test cricket, so to cut short their viewing because a ground 300 miles away doesn't have floodlights is just about the most ******** thing I've ever heard.

I rather think it makes batting easier. But in England there is a strange phenomenon that a day after the ball gets wet, it starts to swing wildly.

So my prediction is that Bangladesh won't lose many wickets today, but tomorrow morning they will collapse in a pile.
Great prediction there tumtum..

6pm at the height of summer seems like a ludicrous cut off time anyway.

It's still light up here at 10pm ffs.

The 2nd reason is indeed utter tripe.

Let's not forget how gob-smackingly ridiculous the first reason is too. Don't like being disturbed by the cricket? Don't live in St John's ****ing Wood then.

Watching the Highlights ATM. Looks like Finn bowled beautifully. His first 2 wickets were a tad fortunate, but he was then unlucky with a few after that. Shakib inside edged between his body and the stumps, he cut Islam in half with one moving down the slope and then almost had him with the outside-edge too. Excellent bowling. Looked like Jimmeh bowled better too, found his inswinger to the lefty again, which was nice to see.

Just seen a few nice deliveries from Bresnan too. Was moving the ball a mile in the air and off the pitch, probably a bit too much. Boycs was talking on TMS about Bresnan, and how the coaches at Yorkshire have been trying to get him to bowl closer to the stumps so that those big out-swingers actually take the edge instead of swing way too much. Apparently he's done it in the nets and it worked very well, but when he gets into a match he reverts back to bowling wide of the crease. Be interesting to see if it's something he works on with the England coaches. Those big out-swingers look great, and beat the batsman, but they're never going to get you wickets, as there's just too much movement. If he could get closer to the stumps and still get it moving late, but not as much, he could pick up a few more wickets. Still hate his action and watching him bowl though.

Was interesting listening to Chris Broad on TMS earlier today too. Was saying how he'd been talking to Stuart about being rested for this Test match, and how he was pretty miffed when he got the call. Apparently Broad told the England management he didn't really need a rest, and if they felt he did he'd rather not be rested for a Test match. Good to hear. I'd be pretty annoyed if I was Broady, sure he'd loved to have filled his boots against the Bangladeshi's at home.

Mark bloody Nicholas. What's the point of him? Why should we be inflicted with him any more? His natural habitat is salivating over muscly Australians Down Under. Please send him back there, never to return.

On Channel 5's highlights programme last night, Geoff Boycott and Michael Vaughan rightly made the point that Bangladesh were very unfortunate to be on the field yesterday....

Not only were they playing in cold, wet and dark conditions in May, when international cricket should never be played in England, IMHO, but these conditions were totally alien to them. HOwever, as Boycott said, it was far too dark out there, and the umpires really should've taken them in. The umpires seemed to be playing to the spectators, and not the players. Would they have done the same if the shoe was on the other foot? I don't think so....

As Michael Vaughan said, if the opposing captain was Ricky Ponting or Graeme Smith, would umpire Billy Bowden have kept them on the field? Neither Vaughan nor I think so. Life is tough when you're a developing cricket nation like Bangladesh. The dice is really loaded against you....

Ha, either great minds think alike or Vaughan has stolen Nasser's line from the Sky coverage, even down to the players he cited as examples! Hmmm. :-O

Agree with the point tho.

Hmm. Well it's quantifiable because they use light meters so if you could get the reading you could see whether there's anything to that or not.
