Have a few days off to watch to watch some CC cricket on tv, Kent v Durham. Good start for Durham, removed Denly and Jones early, both falling to a very under-paced but threatening Harmison.

Durham well under strength in their seam bowling department, still no Onions, Thorp, Davies, while Plunkett's with the England Lions. Hoping Key manages to get a few runs under his belt and gets back into some mind of form.

Do you know what kind of pace Harmison is operating at the moment? he is still probably warming into it, coming back from injury.

Notts in a huge trouble against Hampshire ( yes I'm for real :p ). 29/4 with two wickets each to Tomlinson and Cork, good to see Cork in the wickets after a few poor games.

Will be interesting to see how we manage to **** this one up.

Notts to get 400.
This. We've actually started very well with the ball in most FC games this year, but always find a way to **** it up and let the opposition off the hook. Hopefully they'll show some killer instinct today.

Rob Key playing very nicely for Kent. It's not a good Durham attack really (Scaly to disagree), and Key has taken full advantage of some pretty terrible bowling from Claydon and Blackwell. Key's not had a great start to the season, and it showed early in this innings, but now he's got his eye-in he's looking very good.

Good to see Steven Mullaney helping Notts out of a hole, has made an excellent start there. The more ex Lancs youngsters that succeed elsewhere the more it exposes the abysmal selection policies at OT

Was just about to post this, no doubt Cross will be next. Good to see we have finally done something right in moving Smith down the order.

Durham looking distinctly average again I see.

Yes Harmison is not likely to be at full pelt, looked to have decent rhythm and got the ball very much in the right areas with shape away from the bat, helped by the slope across the wicket. He was bowling on average around 82 mph, gentle by his standards. Will see how he goes as the day progresses, will need to do something about his mate Rob Key who is now finding the boundary with ease. Has been in wretched form in the CC this season, but is looking in good touch now in this innings. Tucked into Mitch Claydon with a number of boundaries flicked through the legside, and his driving been excellent.

Somewhat of a recovery from Notts, thanks to a 71 run partnership, and still going, between Steven Mullaney and Ali Brown.

Key's played beautifully, but as you rightly say, there has been some distinctly average bowling, plenty of poor deliveries to tuck into. Don't think Blackwell was necessarily poor, just that Key was proactive, never let him settle into a groove, and was positive against him, obviously recognising the control Blackwell can offer Durham. He was into the attack before 20 overs had been bowled and he was never going to get much assistance off the pitch so early on the opening morning, he was on soon due to the ineffectiveness of the pacemen, barring Harmison (S).

Claydon looks very rusty and is a bit all over the place, and Rushworth was tidy if unthreatening. But unfortunately for Durham they are going to find it very difficult to replace the bowlers they have out of their side.

Yeah, I was going to ask how the other bowlers look, reckon Rushworth is a prospect for England? It has been strange Captaincy from Smith aswell, nobody has bowled more than 6 overs and half the team has bowled already. Interesting to see how young Borthwick bowls this match, could come down to him and Steve Harmison if Durham want to restrict them and if Harmison was threatening at 80%, imagine what it'll be like when he is at full pelt. How does his brother Ben go aswell? just out of interest.

Notts 5 down at lunch now with the partnership Mullany and Brown being broken by Ervine.

Glad I saw this - wouldn't even have thought of looking for cricket on Sky today.

May pop up to the Oval later in the week if the weather improves.

No mention of yesterday's two upsets btw? Leics went down to Scotland (on second thoughts, maybe not such an upset these days) and Glamorgan lost to the outfit of Minor Counties and University players trading as the Unicorns (who don't seem to have a base, given that their home games are at such diverse venues as Bournemouth, Exmouth and Colwyn Bay).

Harmy's bowling beautifully. Not got the pace we're used to seeing from him, but he's bowling a very good, tight line and length, and is extracting some movement and bounce, been very good to watch. Would certainly rather see this Harmison bowl over the 90mph wayward half-tracker rubbish we've been used to seeing from him. Pitching it up, getting it to move and finding the edge. Good stuff.

There's another one for the big fella too. Northeast gone cheaply. Never looked settled, and was struggling from both ends. Fine bowling this from Steve Harmison.

The Harmison v Key duel has been good to see too. 100 up for the Kent skipper, he'd hardly made that many all season before today.
