Group F (Super 8) - Sri Lanka, Australia, India, West Indies

I remember watching an Indian bowler in the IPL who was bowling consistently with speeds in high 140khs. Is he in the squad? If so he could be quite a handful on this wicket and should replace Nehra.

EDIT: Indian selectors are idiots for not picking that Ojha guy from the IPL. He was not only a wicket-taking bowler but was also hard as hell to score runs off. It baffles me that they chose this Jadeja character over someone who was clearly in great form

WI performances have been disappointing. I don't see a scenario where Australia or Sri Lanka don't make it semi final from here on. Sri Lanka will have to play some really poor cricket from here on to not to make the semifinal.

Tendulkar's ability against the short ball was put to test and sealed when he was nineteen on a burning WACA pitch, tbh.

Didn't watch the game but it sounds like an echo of last year's fiasco. India's top order shown up by the short ball and Jadeja screwing up this time with the ball. IMO Jadeja is the kind of useless bits and pieces player who fails in crunch situations against good teams but does enough in between to keep his place. Obviously Indian pitches are different but I seriously wonder if the short ball was underused against Raina in the IPL. Was there any game where he received the short stuff but was able to thrash it?

EDIT: You can guarantee that Gambhir's play against the short stuff last night will be noted come India's next Test series too. Reckon he'll get more bowled at him from the bowler's half than not.
I have never rated Gambhir in pace-friendly conditions. Reckon he will be shown up in both South Africa and Australia. I am becoming increasingly pessimistic about our chances in both places. Our opening pair will be shaky and our two best players of pace are the wrong side of 35. Sachin's recent form has been amazing but realistically I don't he is going to be able to continue that for two years.

expecting SL to do a number on Aus. Mahela and Sanga should handle the bouncing ball fairly well and Aus has only faced Mendis once would be a nice game.
Excited for tomorrows SL v Aus game. I know Dilshan is out of form but I would prefer him opening against Aus.
Really worried about the honorable ministers health/safety if he has to face 150k+ stuff from Tait and Co.

What I noticed is that SC batsmen use a lot of wrist in the pull-shots. Their coach should start teaching them how to play a proper pull shot, this is just embarrassing. BTW Tendulkar sucks at the pull shot too, it's just that he has a great eye, that's why he fails less playing it.
Haha this must be the joke of century. Nice to see punter fans trying to be one up on sachin always :laugh:

You kidding right?
Yes kidding right. None of your batsman of last 130 years can play shot like this

And a slight reminder Tendulkar holds the record for youngest player to score a international century in
1. Australia

2. South Africa

3. England

Missed that record in Newzealand by 15 runs against Richard Hadlee

And btw Tendulkar can play hook shot as well :laugh::laugh:

Tumtum and Thirdman, please do not turn this thread into a Ponting/Tendulkar debate; I can see it's already heading that way. If you want to talk about who has the better pull shot, you have plenty of other threads that either started or ended as Ponting/Tendulkar debates; please go and find one of them.

Who put Ponting into this?

We were talking about bouncy wickets of Barbados and how to play the short ball. Someone mentioned Tendulkar having a great technique for the Pull/Hook shot, which is not true.

He played Ambrose and Walsh better than ponting in WI. This is my last comment on this topic. If you want to have debate, come in Tendulkar vs ponting section.

Mods have warned both of us.

Looking at the Indian team, forget technique, short balls, pace, pulling or hooking, are they really cut out for T20? Loads of six-balls, leading to an emergency of chasing a massive total on a lively pitch, in turn to another emergency of multiple rash shots, and several strike rates under hundred, suggest they're not quite at home here. In fact, this T20 squad (like most T20 selections for India) has its fair share of questionable (and even fluffy) selections. Beyond that, there's also lack of T20 experience- many Indian cricketers haven't even been regular IPL selections, while players from England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand (and some from Pakistan and WI) have played over forty T20 matches, with some going over seventy. With Indians not wanted in T20 leagues abroad, and often not given enough preference even by IPL team owners, the BCCI need to look into this aspect. First-class cricket seems in relatively good hands, while 50-over domestic cricket has got better lately, but there's work to be done for T20.

They'll have to make do with their best players for the forthcoming matches in the World T20, though. An obvious swap to make is getting in the in-form Vinay Kumar for Ravindra Jadeja, but outside of that, we'd like to see seamers operating with the new ball for all of the first four (or six) overs, and Harbhajan bowling to get wickets instead of merely an economy under seven.

Top post.

Also falling for hype of players even when they clearly aren't cut out for t20i selections like Zak, pathan etc.

They at least are strike bowlers or have good T20 stats. It's selections of Jadeja, Praveem Kumar and possibly Dinesh Karthik that are utter fluff. India's T20I selection hit a new low in 2009 against SL, with all of Jadeja, Ishant, Sreesanth, Tyagi and Dinda, all T20 strugglers, in the same squad. Why on earth an Indian Michael Clarke is thrust in the frontline as a premier T20I bowling all-rounder is a mystery best answered by those at the top.

Thirdman, if the mods have already told you to stop talking about a topic, that's not an invitation to make 'one last post' on it so you can get the last word.

I don't want to have any last word what so ever. If the guy keeps on talking rubbish i won't tolerate. I know this guy from other cricket forums such as PLANET CRICKET and INDIANCRICKETFANS.COM

And only thing he writes on those forum is anti-Sachin. He made a list of most over-rated players on other forums and made Tendulkar captain of it. I know this guy better than you.
Thanks
