Managed to catch the whole last session at least, plus just watched the morning highlights. ND dominance for New Zealand today, thought Arnel bowled really well when he picked up those two wickets (he was unlucky not to have Clarke also). Really glad to see Southee back up his first innings performance also even if he was going for a few fours he at least looked like taking a wicket. I really did think he was going to set North up during that spell.

Oh and can somebody tell me what Simon Doull was going on about when he was talking about Anarag Verma and Andrew Mathieson? I heard that Mathieson was clocked at over 140K last night or something like that?

Really happy with the Clarke/North rearguard effort after what happened in the first innings.

What was Doull saying?

I only just caught the end of what he was saying but he was going on about pace bowlers around the country and he was talking about James Fuller who just debuted for Otago last week and said that he apparently has some gas (which he does). He then brought up Andrew Mathieson saying something like "A young ND bowler yesterday clocked at over 140K at this ground" He brought up both Verma and Mathieson though.

Ah Ok. Surpised he didn't mention Milne whom Mathew Bell singled out on the cricketers show as being quite quick.

wac.

Anyways, very impressed with todays efforts. Was following on cricinfo all day, quite nervous especially when each of those two wicket sells happened I thought that was it, but to their credit they've pretty much sealed the series today and things would have to go pretty wrong to end up 1-1 from here.

If I was Ross Taylor I would be fuming aws, he is the one who actually did something (with some help from the Aussie fielders), but the rest kept throwing away their wickets. Imagine if we got a lead of 100, or when another 100 more runs and lead by 133? I'm not surprised the Australians have done well in their second innings, very rarely do they make the same mistake twice, and if you get half an opportunity, you just have to take it.

Guptill, Vettori and McCullum really dropped the ball. Very disappointing considering how well Dan and Baz batted in the last Test. Even a couple 30s would have been invaluable.

Is Ross being groomed to be our captain after the 2011 world cup? Vettori keeps hinting that he will give it up then and McCullum has been 'demoted'.

Sigh.

This was always on the cards...think everyone knew that if given the chance Aus would grab hold of the match. It's one of the reasons why we're so poor as a test team - we don't do that. We had the chance yesterday, but, as we have done so many times in the last few years, blew it.

simon doull......... bless em..

thats what annoys me these always a better batsmen a better bowler on his up or had a recent debute for his district or its another over seas player who's got sit out their 3 year period..

if it wasnt mckay its arnel it's just a different story for these lads at this level.. nz has got to use a better stategy this idea that "if we only had so and so" is probably not gonna change much..its the mind set that needs to change...

Vettori is talking on about playing to he is 35 or so. So another four years at least. Given Vettori's performances since he became captain, and if he were to give it up, it will be be interesting if his performances go down.

Hope North makes it to 100. He might not be the long-term option, but he is going to end his career with a pretty handy test record. Such are the highs and lows of his form, not very often you could accuse a cricketer who in one year since debut scores 4 test centuries and can still be considered below average and struggling to justify selection.

If only he works out a way to play through bad form. Has plagued him all career, a run of big scores followed by a struggle to score double digits.

Cool, now even the official tour thread makes me want to stick pins in my eyes. And that's not due to the test that's playing out at present. :(
