Battle of Cricketers - CW's Favorite Cricketer

I was always a Mark Waugh fan, so I'm going for Darren Gough.

He was one of my favourite Cricketers in the late 90s.

Waugh, I'll admit I'm heavily influenced by Gough telling me that Lionel Messi isn't that good and wouldn't cut it in the Prem.

Waugh, easily imo, though Gough was a cracking competitor.

Would be an Australian fan's dream to see Anderson trying to bowl to Steve Waugh. Comedy gold, much like Johnson bowling to anyone on the last Ashes tour.

Gough

Bit of a pillock obviously but:

1. He had great spirit and carried our attack through some tough times.

2. This:
Interviewer: "So, Darren, why do your team-mates call you Rhino?"
Gough: "Because I'm as strong as an ox."

3. He's a Test-class cricketer and isn't Steve Waugh, so he basically wins by default

Haha, sums up Goughy pretty well, does that. Truly an oxymoron - A much-loved Pom in Australia.

Probably because he never played in an Ashes winning team tbf

You must be forgetting the 2-Test series in 1997, mate.

Haha, or the one-off test in 01..

Was at the SCG the day Gough got his hat trick. Still the best day's play I've ever seen I think.

300 plus runs
10 wickets
M waugh a ton, in his own inimitable style.
S Waugh a 90, in his own inimitable style too.
A hat trick to finish the day.

Only time I've stood and cheered a Pommie tbh. Felt dirty.

Me: Peter Hartley is bowling pretty quick at the moment. Is he quicker than you?
Gough: Do bears **** in the woods?
Me: Er...Yeah. Yes they do.
Gough: Oh

I was never his biggest fan but a good player and good for the game and its profile.
