Great for Rusty. Just been given a national contract and action was cleared last year. A good IPL should see him parachuted into South Africa’s 20/20 WC XI.

Just need Delhi to start fielding Parnell and AB to wake up. He cost Delhi victory today.

I am a big big fan of AB, but I do not believe he is justifying his spot in the Delhi XI at the moment. :(

the games last night have reignited my interest in ipl.but does india have enough domestic players for another 2 teams? they will have to let 5 internationals play imo.

Lol Chennai. 43 required from 48 with nine wickets left. Surely the bookies stopped offering odds on them.

Yeah, I didn't even think they had a hope in hell of taking it to the super over with Chawla bowling

They've got enough. We see some domestic stalwarts and rising stars (including the much-hyped Pujara and Rahane) sitting on the bench or getting offloaded midway. Why, the last-over hero Joginder hardly gets a game for Chennai. These teams may be left with leftovers, but with rising bid prices, there may be enough for all. With the much-hyped ICL returnees in the fray, there are enough to fill ten teams.

If there's no cap on the number of foreign players (as indicated by Modi) on the teams in the fourth edition, I see that as a good thing. For instance, we'll see more stable, steady teams for the whole duration of the event, and we'll see teams getting built and consolidating. We didn't see that with the IPL finalists, who were rag-tag assemblies of mediocre players, carried forward by exceptional internationals. We'll see constant squads of fourteen, with a regular of eleven players, and it will do the Indian cricketers a lot of good.

What??? If anything Modi was "vehemently" opposing any rumour that number of foreign players will be increased. He was adamant it would stay at the present 4 per 11 and 10 per squad. He even resorted to some theatrics to emphasise the point by almost yelling "This IS INDIAN premier league".

Why are people wondering if there'll be enough players? There are close to 30 Ranji teams. It isn't going to be tough finding players for the two new teams. I'd rather see someone like Shikhar Dhavan get a game regularly for a team than yet another random import who's in it just for the money.

Quality of the cricket will fall, at the moment it's close to international standard.

It will be a little low initially, but if development is a goal, they'll get better. Let's not forget, the much-vaunted IPL teams were humbled by lesser teams like Somerset- and there are so many teams in England with no more than two internationals a team. They're not good as teams, or cohesive units, and that's a lot more important than adding more internationals, especially the non-regulars in national teams.

I don't think it will fall. Players like Dhavan aren't getting a game atm not because they're inferior to those playing, but because there's not enough room to play them.

Sweet my state's got an IPL team. Kerala are epically laughable in the domestic scene tho - hopefully we can lure a few big recruits to the team. BI do you know who is going to be our brand ambassador? Mohanlal?
Hope SreeSanth is noway near the team.

Why can't Graham Napier get a game for Mumbai? Looking at his T20 stats, he should have been a regular for Mumbai, instead of Duminy, and Pollard's immediate replacement.

I actually like the super over. It's fascinating to see top batsmen in such a high-pressure situation where they have to balance quick runs with just two wickets in hand. Like I said I don't think a spinner is a good option in this situation even one as great as Murali. He didn't actually do anything wrong but a top batsman like Mahela will always have a chance of connecting and hitting a six off him.
Murali bowled two rubbish deliveries to Mahela, neither yorkers nor a length where his prodigious turn could be a factor. He basically bowled two 55mph juicy half-volleys. A decent striker of the ball would have hit them both for 6. Yuvraj's reverse sweep was the only really good bit of cricket in the super over eliminator.
