Really thought we were are chance at tea on the first day, but our brittle batting really cost us the game. Even bowling them out for just over 300, there was still plenty of time left in the game. An innings of even 350 or 400 would have put us in the game.

Reckon both Simpson & Carseldine's positions need to re-evaluated coming into next season. A lot of positives, particularly in the bowling department from this season.

The problem is both tasmania and qld have too many batters that are good in one dayers and **** in first class cricket, really 20 contracts isn't enough to budget for these types of cricketers.
If simpson is sacked that will be another one day player who doesn't play first class cricket.

The problem is, I really cannot see the value in keeping Simpson. He weakens an already brittle batting lineup and does not strengthen the bowling (at least when Boyce is available).

Courier mail saying it probably mcgains last game, wonder if the vics will seek out a spinner.
Blizzard clears up a spot so does mcgain,so maybe kregja and warner for the vics.
Dunno how to fix qlds batting its about the worst in state cricket apart from wa,import import imprt.8-)

I agree with most of what was said in that article.

I don't know why McGain is being shown the door. He's the best legspinner in the country at the moment.

I think a lot can be said for QLD's team attitude. Given there are no real standout players (perhaps Hartley & Hopes are the exception) the players have to contribute as a team. There's a lot to be said for making the Shield final two years in a row, winning a FR Cup final and just missing out on a final, also finishing 3rd in the 20/20 two years in a row. Those are pretty consistent results with only Victoria being better. Maybe an import or two could see them go a little better.

Yeah, kudos to QLD for getting as far as they did, just lacked another game-breaker. Pretty much everyone wrote them off (me included) pre-season.

Dissapointing season for the Redbacks really after that start, when they beat Tasmania in the first game I thought they could dominate. Not enough centuries from the batsmen, can't just rely on Klinger all the time, Borgas, Cosgrove, Harris and Smith, two of them need to have big seasons with the bat not just solidish. O'Brien probably needs 100 aswell, I think SA should forget about playing Cullen Bailey and Dan Cullen ( unless he improves ) for next season. George, Cleary and Christian do well enough with the ball, its that other bowler that doesn't.

Ferguson should be back next season so he should improve that middle order a lot, SA should maybe look at bringing in a good young pace bowler ( ****ley IMO ). If they could get Mcgain that would be pretty good I guess.

Cricket Victoria is under big pressure from CA to push Holland upwards. They have huge wraps on him from his time at the Academy, and see him as the best option of the U/23 spinners at the moment. I'd be very surprised if they went after Krezja.

Michael Beer has taken a ridiculous amount of wickets over the past 4 years, and will be the next in line after Holland, and is helped by the fact that he does most of his bowling on a flat Junction wicket. Although that he is a left arm orthodox bowler as well may mean that there is some focus on getting another back-up option. This is if McGain were to stop, and there's a feature article on cricketvictoria.com on him, stating he's keen again for next season. Jewell indicates that he will think about it further before making a decision.

Congratulations Victoria on winning the shield this year, well deserved.

Now that the match is finished I kind of wish NSW made the final. I would have loved to have seen Copeland bowling and I think NSW would have been tough to beat even minus Hughes and Smith.

Chris Simpson's time is up in the longer form, Hartley should become the captain. Mr Wright mentioned that Carseldine should go also, I disagree with this.

QLD need to find/develop a couple of batsman who are capable of having 800 run seasons, are fast bowling attack is the big positive for the year.

At the start of the season I wrote QLD off as a team, so I'm glad we have come back and played so well. All of our fast bowlers have stood up - Rimmington, Cutting, Walter, Feldman, Swan and Harris have all done a great job this season. We need to find some depth to our batting though and Warner IMO would be a very good pick. We could guarantee him every shield game as well unlike other states.

Do CA put a lot of pressure on the States to bring through the talented young players through and give the older players (as in over 30) the tap on the shoulder and telling them to retire or get axed? Otherwise, what is there to stop Cricket Victoria telling CA to 'mind their own business'?

TBH, I'd be shocked if they didn't and similarly shocked if a state association had a major problem with it. Dunno whether they'd have much say about retiring players but I don't see much of an issue with putting the hard word on, say, South Australia to give George the ball more than, say, Haberfield (much as I'm a Haber fanboy).

It's interesting to see how things are run in Australia, then say England, where the States would be more inclined to bring a young player through. Whereas in England, if the ECB said a similar thing to a County then they might get to GAGF. That could be an ignorant comment though.
