That's true. Good point.

I still think Australia have shown weakness against South Africa and Pakistan (prior to the home series) against spin in the middle overs.
This is unquestionably true imo. It's why I think we're vulnerable on the subcontinent in the WC.

Haha yeah despite my disagreement to Australia dominating they do deserve to have won this series. Well done by them, Hussey is the bane of New Zealand.

3-2 is a bit generous to NZ.

Australia dominated three games, NZ held on in one game and the last was a dead rubber.
We got out classed in two games completely - we won 1 and lost one reasonably closely and won the dead rubber. Perhaps because we got outclassed in those 2 games your point holds.

Interesting in looking at the top 4 batsmen from each team in the series that Hopkins was one of NZ's best .........

SB Styris 5 5 1 199 55 49.75 228 87.28
LRPL Taylor 4 4 0 177 70 44.25 229 77.29
BB McCullum 5 5 0 154 61 30.80 172 89.53
GJ Hopkins 4 4 0 126 45 31.50 150 84.00
DL Vettori 4 4 0 110 70 27.50 108 101.85

CL White 5 5 2 168 54 56.00 223 75.33
MEK Hussey 5 5 1 198 59 49.50 209 94.73
BJ Haddin 5 5 0 192 110 38.40 221 86.87
JR Hopes 5 3 0 102 40 34.00 122 83.60
RT Ponting 5 5 0 164 69 32.80 167 98.20

3-2 is a fair result, IMO.

Considering that Australia won 2 games clear-cut, whilst New Zealand won tonight's game clear-cut (one could argue the umpiring decisions were crucial, but NZ's bowling was outstanding).

That's 2-1 to Australia, with each team winning a 50-50 match.

I can see the argument that 3-2 is fairly generous to NZ, considering that if Styris was given out LBW in game 1, then it would have been 4-1. But then again, if Vettori had only hit that ball in game 2...

All ifs and buts in the end.

What is certain to me is that James Franklin's ODI career is all but over. IMO he offers absolutely nothing to the team in his current state.

Haha.

The whole crowd went up for that Ponting wicket. I sorta laughed, and then Baxter raises his finger?

Anyhoo, good bowling from NZ. Some more piss poor batting from our top order. How many times do McCullum and Taylor, our two best batsmen, get themselves out?

A good recovery from the tail to put up a defendable total. Tuffey becoming a rather nice finisher........

Oh, and 3-2 is a pretty fair indication of how the series went.
4-1 would have flattered Australia if anything. Yeah, NZ played some **** cricket in between, but considering they were 12 runs away (with plenty of balls in hand) to going up 2-0.......

I'm not allowed to say it though. Streetwise will eat me

Still the best ODI team no doubt, but every team has a little weakness (some more than others). I think middle overs spin can be AUstralia's on some occasions.

Australia's middle order is far too pedestrian.

White's as culpable as Clarke is in this respect. He gets away with it because he's got the ability to shift gears.

Australia are relying on Hussey and the lower order hitters to play blinders to get to 270/280 far too often.
