***Official New Zealand Domestic Season Thread 2009/10

Howsie

Cricketer Of The Year
Ryder and Williamson will both be pretty average options in test cricket in that they're not really wicket taking bowlers, but they're both good enough to get 15 overs a day done. Would give New Zealand some really good balance IMO.

Adam Milne for CD in his debut game, coming in for Mason, (17 y/o) takes four coming in as first bowling change. Was young cricketer of the year last year.

Interesting to note that he would have made his debut (ahead of Bevan Small) who was told he would play in place of Diamanti if he wasn't fit.

Any news on him?

Nice to see Bracewell with the first three wickets to fall.

When is Merchant going to make the believers feel somewhat justified.

Haha you know what is crazy? Woodcock is the top scorer in this season's FC cricket by well over 100 runs.
Merchant though is second for Wellington, round abouts 40 this season but should really be getting near 50.

Young fast bowler Milne in his second match has come back well from a bit of a pasting to claim the wickets of the two set batsmen as well as that has pulled his economy rate back from 6 and over to 3.4. The kid learns quickly apparently.

All five wickets from the young bowlers Bracewell and Milne.

Yeah, about time really. I rate Doug Bracewell a lot and reckon if he sorts a few things out in his delivery stride he should become a lot more consistant, he's already got everything else a good bowler needs to do well, pace, bounce and swing.

Yep I've heard he is pretty swift and four in the first innings of the last game (debut) and four here is a pretty good result for a 17 year old.

Williamson has just been absurdly impressive since the new year. Still wouldn't select for the tests against aussie though. The Z-listers bowling for Wellington and Auckland are just worlds below Johnson, Bollinger and co.

Odd considering how strong Wellington and Auckland's backup bowling stocks were just last year.

Hilariously, Todd Astle appears to have reinvented himself as a legspinner, grabbing himself a 5fer against a strong Otago batting lineup to help rap up the match.
