Yeah how dare they persist with someone who averaged a meagre 80 in the OD domestic competition.

But in all seriousness, replace Broom with Williamson, Stewart or Watling already. I can't stand the Broom bashing :(
Yeah, people getting a bit swept up in the emotion of it.

I can exclusively reveal that Smith, Hughes, Harris, North and McKay have all been picked for the Test component of the NZ tour.

North's selection is a joke; he's already been dismissed for single figures this morning for WA.

Anyway, please join me on the Steve Smith for number six bandwagon.

All aboard!!!

Must admit, Hilditch's style of point-by-point rebuttal to either spruik a player or talk down criticism sounds a lot like the average CW.net poster. Doesn't sound like the language of a genuine insider. I wonder how much time he actually spends with the team.

It'd be a written statement, though?

Yeah but I've seen him argue for players in the same way in interviews. Like "Player x has averaged 43 over the past year, has hit a hundred recently and has 5 50's in Tests" rather than a Simpson-esque "Well, he's been putting in on the training track and hitting them well in the nets. We reckon he'll come good.". I could be completely mistaken, of course but it's just the way he presents to me personally.

Yeah agreed. M'thinks North's selection may be an example of what I've been saying where his record over the past two years is used as justification for selection publically despite not being in the same postcode as the line and length of the ball in the nets.

Fast bowling's a little light on imo - presumably one of Harris or McKay will play. Reckon Harris might be in front given his ODI form of late has kept him in the spotlight. Would be a great story were he to play.

White a bit unlucky as well(never thought I'd say that about him tbh). Be interesting if North fails in the first test, could be a massive opportunity for Smith.

Strange squad

No way should North or McKay be in and I've doubts that Harris is test quality as well

You'd have to think that Hughes is going to play or else there wouldnt be much point in taking him

I'm with you in that I'd pick Smith
