***Official New Zealand Domestic Season Thread 2009/10

If Williamson goes on and makes a biggie here (150+) I'm guessing the calls for him to be selected will get louder and louder. Could be the perfect number six if Vettori wants somebody who and can bowl 10-15 overs a day.

Get him in at 3. :ph34r:

Still too early!

But man..what a talent.
If you're good enough, you're old enough IMO. Yeah it's probably a tad too early to pick him but look at the form, get him in there and let him have a taste. If Australia are picking guys like Hughes and Smith then New Zealand should have no problem picking Williamson.

Hughes = 21
Smith = 20
Williamson = 19

I'll have no problem with Williamson getting an international callup when he is 20 (so, next season). Everyone seems to conveniently forget that Williamson failed away from home on the Emerging Players tour and A tour to India.

Phill Hughes was 20 when he made his test debut FTR. Have no idea why it would matter that he was 20 either, his 20th birthday is only four months away.

It's got nothing to do with his age. Just that he'll have another season under his belt, which I think is what he needs.

So would anybody seriously object if he was called up to the ODI team during this series v Australia if there was an injury or two?

I wouldn't object, but i'd still prefer him to have another season of domestic cricket, atleast before he plays a test match.

williamson falls for 170. On paper you can only applaud. One more season like this one then introduce him to the bc's playing side.

I agree. Giving him a go in an ODI or a T20 is a different kettle of fish before he gets given a go in a Test match. Who do you think he will replace in the Test team?

Ideally my top 7 for next season would be:

Watling
McIntosh/Ingram
Guptill/Williamson
Taylor
Ryder
Williamson/Guptill
McCullum

Probably Williamson at 3, since that is where he is batting and having success. McIntosh or Ingram depends on who sucks less in the next 12 months.

Dunno if Ryder is anything more than a decent part timer at this stage, and unsue if Williamson is a Test level number 5 in his career as of yet.

That said even Guptill can bowl an Astle-like golden over.
