The atmosphere in Cricket Chat - Suggestions & Discussion

Just get rid of post counts IMO.
Not entirely sure what problems that would solve TBH but I wouldn't be averse at all to the dropping of post-counts from the mini-profile (ie, what you see at the side of a post - which currently contains posting-ID, avatar, post-count, location and join-date), and them only being visible when you clicked on a poster's full profile.

Plus I get seriously depressed when I see how much time I've spent on here, not good for my mental health.
Never remotely understand this mindset. If you don't like posting on CW (or anywhere), don't post. If you post here for a lengthy spell, it tends to suggest there just might be a teeny bit that's enjoyable about the place and that your time posting has by-and-large been well spent.

Never remotely understand why anyone who talks seriously of the demerits of posting on internet forums remotely bothers to post so much as a single post on them.

Someone give me a negative on removing post counts though.

If it may make a difference, yet most definitely will not be a negative, I see no reason why not to do it.
I see it more as a case of "if there's next to no chance of it making a difference, why bother doing it?"

FTR, the official term for that is "postbit".

Since we were talking about 'amount of posts' a while ago, Richard, why do you have over 60,000 posts and like 30 posts a day or something?!

I post on here because I don't have anything else to do. Hence, while I might 'enjoy' posting, it's a relative enjoyment. I'd much rather be doing other things, if the chance presented itself. Some of the stuff on here is good, because I'd never get to talk about cricket in that way with others. But a lot of it just suggests I'm wasting my life.

Gah, hate the internet.

I'm pretty sure that is what happens anyway when you "remove" the post count. That is what has occurred at another forum that I very irregularly use when they did so, anyway.

On another forum I used to frequent, you can't see post counts at all, not even in someone's full profile or in the members list.

Its interesting how people either want post count removed (I am one of them), or think it doesn't matter either way and yet we are having a debate about it. Should one presume there are those who love to see the number of posts next to their (or others) names but are unwilling to say it unequivocally. I may be completely off here but this subject has taken over this thread which is amazing considering the import of what this thread is supposed to debate and the relative unimportance (so says almost everyone including yours truly) of this bit about number of posts.

Only one person asked a relevant question (he just beat me to it by a couple of minutes :-)) and that is "Can any one tell why removing them is bad?" or words to that effect. I dont think anyone bothered to answer that one seriously. Wonder why?

I think this has been discussed enough for James and his team to be able to take a decision on it. Maybe we should go back to discussing what can be done to really improve what many think is the 'atmosphere problem' at CC.

Personal humble opinion, if you please. :)

The question of post-counts is of supreme indifference to me tbh. The fact the topic has dominated the last few pages of the thread indicates to me that most have got things off their chests now. If so, it's no bad thing

As I said to Jono, I gave a reason in favour of them staying earlier in the thread.

Meh, I don't care whether we had post counts or not. It's not like the forum is full of spammers anyway.

Keep them. Only Richard, marc, and Liam have more posts then me, so therefore me >> majority of everybody else.

If this thread is supposed to be about atmosphere, I don't see why we are discussing post-counts. The two have no relation whatsoever.

Pratyush's post directed towards duplicate accounts has been deleted and all posts responding to it.

I would suggest this post is re-read.

Regardless of whether anyone believes a member is a duplicate account or not, without proof, we will not ban the member(s) in question. It isn't acceptable to publicly accuse people of this and if it continues, warnings will be handed out for it because it is clearly unfair to the member(s) being accused.
I had edited the post already. And I agree what you say regarding duplicate accounts.

As I said in my original post, I repeat - I think moderators need to be more strict and senior members more responsible. Also kudos to the mod team to take initiative to better the forums.
