The negative here is...does this mean that the selectors will now be justified in keeping Styris at 7 "because he's a finisher"?

I've never been a Franklin basher but even I can see that him batting 5 in today's line-up makes no sense. Also, his bowling is a constant frustration. He seems to have some pretty obvious technical problems (I'm no expert but his delivery stride seems way too long and, after quite a brisk run up, his body and particularly his bowling arm actually seem to decelerate through the crease) that reduce 10kph off his bowling.

Also, I know that Franklin has probably been a 125-130kph bowler for most of his career (always interspersed with spells of 140kph bowling that flatter to deceive) but is it just me or was he bowling slightly differently today? It was almost as if he'd given up on being a proper seamer and was bowling sort of back of a length, Scott Styris-esque cutters. Is this his future? Or did I imagine it?
Surely not. Promotion to 5 for Saturday and Franklin and Broom for 6 and 7. I am a bit of a Franklin fan, but I still dont know where he would slide into this batting line-up. 5 is too high for him, and 8 too low, so its either 6 or 7 which, I suppose, has much of a muchness about it. Tbf, he should be thankful that Oram is injured, else he would most likely be dropped again. He does need to show more intent with his batting though.

As to his bowling, I dont know. Only reason he bowled so many was because Vettori was out and Oram was injured. As to his bowling style, I think it seemed to be the plan at that time in the game - and he did it pretty well tbf to him. As I said earlier in the thread though, I think he still has a lot to offer as a bowler - but it should be to his strengths, that is not wicket to wicket back of a length bowling.

Great win. After Australia scored 275 I couldn't see NZ making it against this Aussie attack. Well done. Couldn't watch it though sadly. Will be watching the highlights.

After bagging Ingram since I joined this forum I will admit he's quickly becoming one of my favourite players. Seems like a really good bloke and all and I actually enjoy watching him bat in a strange way.
Beautiful.

Oh and Ingram>>>Vincent people. The awesome thing is domestically I can back that up as well :p

Well actualy Vincent with his versatility and shot range has it over Ingram in limited overs, FC though, despite being aggressive, Ingram has far more patience than Vincent will ever have and it shows in the output. Averages something like 59 in FC since 2006. Thats probably the best numbers of any opener in this country over that period.

I'd write more too, except I already did that a few pages back and cbf writing it again, not that I really need to anyway.:p

i hate how everyone keeps on calling him samoan.

His Dad is white, of European descent, who incidently brought him up. Does that make him a European??
Actually, I didnt know this. A couple of Samoan people I know who love the game often claim him as their own - especially after he has scored a good knock! I had assumed he was either full or with something of an ethnic mix - hence why I said of Samoan stock/heritage. Tbf, I dont know how he sees himself or whether the Samoan side of his ancestry is important to him or not - but I thought it interesting seeing as Tana was recently the first AB captain of Samoan/Polynesian (full) heritage.

But this looks like veering into a weirdly racial discussion, so I will steer clear, thanks.

Ross Taylor is a New Zealander not Samoan, thats his point I believe.
Not that old canard again. Its perfectly possible to be a proud New Zealander and to be proud of your ethnic heritage as well. The valuation of one does not obviate the other as a national identity does not wipe out an ethnic heritage - unless it is a matter of personal choice, of course.

Edit/ But yeah, thats it from me on this topic. Should probably have never brought it up. Back to the cricket!

Ingram looked terrible for his first 20 odd balls.

If NZ win this series 3-2 we move up to 3rd in the world. 5-0 and we're second behind Australia and ahead of India.

Currently
1. Australia
2. India
3. South Africa
4. NZ

Johnson's kidding himself - only saw the highlights this morning - that was appalling - should sit some matches out for that.

It's piss poor though tbh. This sort of thing is slowly but surely creeping onto the game, and one day someone's going to get snotted on the field. Will be a sad, sad day when that happens, but it will.

Yup, indeed. If you want to watch blokes behaving like that, that's what football's for.

I am going to Eden Park on Saturday. Anybody else from around here going?
I'm going to the Thursday game. It's going to be weird having half the stadium missing.

Pretty sure I've heard Taylor refer to his Samoan heritage though.

Its the type of cricket that I was brought up on. Im not keen on the chirping and pathetic sledging but I love a bit of passion that boils over and then calms.

Im usually very harsh on the behavior of cricketers but I saw nothing wrong with that. Boys being boys in the heated cauldron of international sport.

As long as the same players dont make a habit of it, it is a release of frustration, its directed at a player rather than an umpire and 'in the moment' then I think it is healthy. Its when it continues and doesnt blow over or settle down when it is a problem.

Yeah, ridiculous from him really. Should know better by now - he's been around a while.

And frankly, even if he hadn't been, it's still ordinary.
