Great game, watched the second half of the innings, really entertaining. We were robbed though, Watto had Styris plumb

What a great game. It was so exciting following on cricinfo. How much fun it must have been watching live in TV.

I thought Styris left the onslaught till too late but he knew what he was doing I suppose.

Shame we've bowled utter rubbish and Taylor/Styris played very well
Yeah exactly.

So common these days for teams to chase 275+ and people just say "that's the modern game", which is of course true to an extent, but they often overlook diabolical fielding and bowling in the face of aggressive batting.

Well done to NZ, it's good to see at least one of the sides outside the "big four" is doing well, me being biased i'd probably say we've got the more talented individuals but NZ has got something we (WI) desperately lack and that's team spirit and organisation, those two things can take you a long way and it was proven today.
tbh, don't feed the troll and all that, but...

this post is ******** imo

That exchange from Styris and Mitch the bitch was ****ing great!

What a game! This series is gonna be a bloody ripper!

And I second the notion of wanting to have Bondies' kids.

On a darker note, is that Oram's last ever game for New Zealand?

At least we finally get some limited overs opposition this summer!

NZ are good at executing game plans which show up weaknesses in our game, hopefully stimulating improvement in the longer term.

bring in referrals  oh well Bond did the trick anyway, not a dead plumb decision enough doubt was there.

Nah, NZ has more talented players. Bond's the best ODI fast bowler in the world and Vettori the best spinner for starters.

I am not so sure mate.

Current West Indian cricketers lack consistency more than anything else. I am sure lack of team spirit etc are issues but even as individuals talent alone isn't enough unless they deliver more regularly and thats not happening with the best new talent coming from the Windies.

The negative here is...does this mean that the selectors will now be justified in keeping Styris at 7 "because he's a finisher"?

I've never been a Franklin basher but even I can see that him batting 5 in today's line-up makes no sense. Also, his bowling is a constant frustration. He seems to have some pretty obvious technical problems (I'm no expert but his delivery stride seems way too long and, after quite a brisk run up, his body and particularly his bowling arm actually seem to decelerate through the crease) that reduce 10kph off his bowling.

Also, I know that Franklin has probably been a 125-130kph bowler for most of his career (always interspersed with spells of 140kph bowling that flatter to deceive) but is it just me or was he bowling slightly differently today? It was almost as if he'd given up on being a proper seamer and was bowling sort of back of a length, Scott Styris-esque cutters. Is this his future? Or did I imagine it?

I think you will find in the last 4 years that NZ has been/is one of the "Big four" in ODIS

I have said it before and will say it again, our selectors either need their heads read or are incompetent for leaving Styris out for so long.

NZ is just better than WI at ODIs.

Bond/Mills/Vettori are three of the best ODI bowlers around, WI have nothing within a million miles of that.

imo NZ is currently 4th in ODIs, and that's in terms of talent and achievement/performance. We actually have a talented bunch atm, particularly with the bat where if anything we are full of somewhat underperforming talents (McCullum, Taylor kinda) and genuine ODI guns albeit in the infancy of their careers with apparently tons of ability (Ryder, Guptill)- complete opposite of gutsy battlers.

Just from watching this game I'd say that Australia need to improve massively before they can compete with a world class side like South Africa.
The result tonight makes this post even worse than it was to begin with
