*Official* England in Bangladesh

Rather petering to its conclusion. Scores level.

Bumble just emphemistically referred to Mortaza's weight gain "looks out of condition". Fat, David; he looks fat.

EDIT: Colly hits the winning single. Played chaps. All bit underwhelming tho.

Good effort from Collingwood, Swann, Cook and Prior to win the game for us. Not a particularly convincing performance but a win is a win. Just hope we see Tredwell play in the next game, hopefully in place of Fat Sid.

Luke Wright bowled 1 over and was due to bat at 7.Maybe use him as first change and then bring a spinner in for Sidebottom.

I can't, off the top of my head, remember any international cricketer ever requesting his own omission from a team because of a form slump. Tiredness, the birth of a baby, depression, 'personal issues', certainly, but never because of a form slump. Out-of-form cricketers generally try to save their spot in the side by making a big score while they've still got the privelege of being in the side.
In addition to those mentioned by others, Graham Gooch asked to be dropped after struggling to cope with Terry Alderman in 1989

To be fair, there were only a couple mentioned, and they seemed to have occured over a span of several decades.

We'll have to agree to disagree I think, I still hold the view that our country's highest paid centrally contracted cricketer should have shown some bottle and kept fighting for his place. He'll achieve nothing playing in our national league.

I wasn't disagreeing with your main point (not even sure I remember what it was TBH!) - just responding to the question of which players have asked to be dropped. And Goochie was one that I remember.

I'd be questioning why such a waste of space is the countries' highest paid player.

He wasn't as useless as he is right now, when the contracts were disbursed, his technique and confidence is shot right now. He can't even pick up regular arm balls by spinners right now ... he used to be a very very good player of spin.

Cricinfo once did a study of the most in-control batsmen in Test Cricket in terms of Edges, Chance and Outs and Ashraful topped that list.

If Jamie had worked with that Ash, He would only have to had to work on his Temperament. Same with Aftab who looks lost now since coming back from the ICL

Anyways ... He atleasted Contributed for Dhaka Today 27-12-68-4, in terms of Spin Bowling he's the biggest turner in the country, hopefully he's gone back to his legspinning. Thats how he got into the team.

Same with Kapali both of them can be very very good leg spinners

Shakib only started concentrated on his bowling, only when Jamie told him that he wouldn't have a side in the Test Team if he didn't start bowling

Athlai

Not Terrible
Anyone else read Siddons comments on the game? Very refreshingly realistic approach to the team. Wants to develop the world class players and make Bangladesh competitive while appreciating their shortfalls. Think Tamim shows that approach by how he is gradually tempering his game. Through being able to score a single after a boundary and tone down such a blazing start to play out overs we're finding maturity in a team where everyone is in their early twenties.

Because of his commercial value in our country. To be fair, if they've renewed the contracts recently then I'd hope that he'd now be on a lot less money than Shakib and Tamim at least.

And we're quite aware he's ****, no one's been under any other illusions for years.

Ashraful gets lovely loop on the ball when he bowls leggies. You can tell he was a very good bowler in his youth, and could be a pretty useful one again if he kept working on it.

I've never been a fan of Kapali's bowling.

Tredwell in for Sid. Consoling himself with an isotonic Ginsters pasty or seven, no doubt.

Decent pace from Broad in his first over; every ball up over 85mph and a couple topped 88.

Tredwell in for Sidebottom seems a sensible move, there was very little in it in terms of swing or seam for Siddy, Tredwell should get some spin and offers a better alternative with the bat.

For Bangladesh Rubel Hossain comes in, and Suhrawadi Shuvo for Junaid Siddique and the unfit looking Masrafe Mortaza. I like Rubel Hossain, he has good pace but he is raw, and does not have the accuracy to put batsmen under any serious pressure. He represents a decent wicket-taking option, but he may well prove pretty costly in search of those wickets.

Steady enough start for Bangladesh here, 32-0 off just over 7 overs.

Absolutely horrible shot from Aftab. Ticking along at 5 an over, plenty of overs left, yes be positive, but that was awful, no thought in that shot at all.

Tamim just deceived by a clever slower one from Broad. Need to re-build from here Bangladesh or it come be another small chase for England.
