Is opening with Young and McIntosh, while putting Vincent down the order (below Hopkins himself) another Hopkins masterstroke? Or shall we blame the coach for that one?

Setting out in pursuit of a big total, you leave one of the best field-up smashers in the country to come in in the middle order, where he has proved time and again to be utterly hopeless.

Unbelievable.

Also, Hopkins' bowling selections are completely random, he really seems clueless out there. Starting to really loathe him tbh....picked for NZ when he sucks and there is a clear better option, and picked as Auckland captain when he seems to have nfi what he is doing.
There simply has to be something more to it we don't know about than batting/keeping ability.

Well, I'm totally bewildered. How was that not out? Ball passes bat with no gap, bat nowhere near pad, huge noise at exactly the right moment.

Now that Vincent is on his 3rd innings for the day he will probably smash it.

Ugh, Gareth Hopkins continuing his services to mediocrity.
How someone who is just so poor all round makes the national squad, we'll probably never know.

He doesn't warrant his place in the Auckland side for his batting (get de Boorder back in there), he isn't needed for keeping and has shown diabolical captaincy in both limited over finals this year.
The brains trust has nil justification to pick him.

Looking at the two overall today, how Hopkins is in Blackcaps favour and McGlashan isn't is beyond me.

Plunket Shield back on today, with Myburgh making early runs. Given that he qualifies in July I think, does anyone think he'll be close to a test spot? Nearly 2000 runs at 55 since he moved to New Zealand is nothing to be sneezed at.

He'll be at the front of the line

(Assuming no selector stupidity interference)

Except, I think it may be sometime during/after September, cause he emigrated here in Oct 07 and played his first game on 12th Nov.

He'll have to squeeze in somewhere other than his fav batting position tho, probably 3 unless Taylor has a change of heart.

van Wyk should be qualified by now too. No more Hopkins please

EDIT: Err, I see Josh Brodie has had his finger broken by an injured Gillespie

Raval making mincemeat of the (admittedly awful) wellington bowling lineup, while McIntosh crawls along behind him. I'm curious about Raval. Has anyone seen him play or have any thing to say about him?

Pleased to see Donnelly (finally!) and Brownlie playing rather than old man Harris knicking a spot.
The Aussie imports Stuey Rhodes and Brownlie have taken to our domestic circuit like a duck to water. I hope they plan to hang around long term.

It was also pleasing to see Nicol, Myburgh, Stewart and Brownlie all cash in, while domestic bullies Papps and Fulton failed

He has great concentration and loves a flat deck?

He's a fantastic driver (loves the cover drive) And is pretty good on the pull. I've only seen him bat twice though so I can't really say much about him. He has built himself up quite the record though, love how he just keeps scoring runs. Surely Auckland can't just drop him again.

I've heard Raval is a pretty big talent. Never seen him play though, but everything i've heard has been good.

Not Terrible
Weakest Wellington team I've probably ever seen and we're heading for a thrashing.

Need Franklin, Gillespie, Ryder, Elliott, McKay and Brodie in the team for the rest of the summer, screw the black caps.

What do you do with Dave? Does he still spin the ball? He has outshone himself with the bat scoring 70 odd even though a fat 0 in the second. Still better than with the ball.

Williamson will be gutted to miss a ton. Should have gone on considering the road like nature of the wicked. Even the twins scored on it.

Incidently will they stick with that hair style all their lives?

Something can't be right when the two Marshall's score big centuries and McIntosh scores at a strike rate of 85.

graeme aldridge in good form 6-57 vs wellington. outsider for test team ?
Outside of the squad? Yes he is.

Williamson once again cashing in. Setting himself up for another hundred - let's see if he can convert then push on for a big hundred, which seems to be his next milestone to tick off.
