Didnt watch any of today's play, havent read a bulletin or any posts but it looks to me as though it's a typical Indian pitch backed by good local performance on the first day

Thoughts?
You should have watched today's play or read a bulletin or a post.

Much more bounce and carry than the typical Indian pitch, Dhoni was collecting a lot of stuff at head level, had some grass and there was definite assistance for the fast bowlers. Spinners also got good bounce. Last Test was much closer to a 'typical' Indian pitch (though not a dustbowl, which is what India should be making 100% of the time) than this one.

Yeah. Ishant's spell is good example. Even after some very good performances I am still not convinced amla can play short pitch balls on pitches with little bounce. He may play second fiddle to smith but not commanding. When he was scoring freely i thought indians missed a trick there, but once ishant's spell with short stuff started i was pretty sure that atleast 4 or 5 wickets will fall by the end of the day. But I didn't imagine bhajji spinning (not spinning ) SA into dire straits.

Nah not a typical Indian pitch.

The LBWs of Prince and Duminy were straight balls. No one got out to huge turn at all actually.

This is why Eden Gardens is the home of Indian cricket. Did you see the crowd? It was so awesome. No other Indian crowd is this good at a Test match.
Yeah When they are supporting India.... they are pretty good crowd.
But in terms of fair crowd..... Chennai's the best one in India.

Spinners are bowling .... I thought Zak would be a better option considering he does well against left-handers

haha, comical start .... they are bowling all over the place

And Zak ends SA inning at 296

Nothing surprising. Eden is always a good test wicket with some thing in it for every one. A superb test wicket.
