Oh so when poster Black_Warrior was bigging up IND 2008 series win vs AUS, it was fine to pollute the thread. But now that i arguing againts it, its "idiotic irrelevancies"?. Oh the double standard

But yes i agree lets drop this & focus on this awesome game, that IND are facing an innings defeat in..
I'd ask you to start another thread if you want to talk about rankings. Some of us just want to enjoy and talk about the current game. And yes, it's a fantastic game despite India losing. I can appreciate a great bowling performance.

didn't want to respond but is very hard not to

india lost 2 players to injury where in your example is there 2 very good batsmen missing games due to injury.

people dropped is due to the fact that they where out of form while injury is different hope you know the difference
Yes. But at the same time, your reserves are still going to be exposed & have to step up either way. Which is the general point of the comparison.

forget dravid and laxman. with sehwag, sachin, dhoni and gambhir in the line up, any team should be able to make a fight of any test match anywhere. it is the failure of the bowlers that SA posted an imposing first innings total. that wrecked india, combined with steyn's fabulous fast bowling, which should rightfully be ranked alongside imran's 12 wkt sydney effort 35 years ago, ambrose's 7 fer in perth, harmison's 7 for 12 in the carribean, marshall's one-handed 7 fer in headingly, holding's 13 wkt haul in '76, and hadlee's 9 fer down under, as one of the greatest modern fast bowling performances in an overseas test. hats off dale.

PS: Add akhthar's 5 for 16 in colombo vs australia to that list even though pakistan went on to lose the test

This is really where the problem lies for India

It's all very and good having a great batting lineup but you cannot expect them to fire every time and when the bowlers are consistently giving up huge scores, it's bound to happen more and more frequently due to pressure, tiredness, etc

because I can recollect atleast half dozen spells in the modern game that were better.
Thats subjective though, since someone could argue Harmo's 7-12, was among some of the best recent half dozen spells in the modern game.

I agree with this. Our batting powers cannot time and again bail us out. Actually the only player who really puts in his 100% into bowling atm is Zaheer Khan.

It's the reason why India won't stay #1 for long. Zaheer may be your best ATM, but I wouldn't put him in the top echelon of fast bowlers in the world right now. It's why I think Australia will be #1 again in the very near future. Our pace attack is just awesome right now.

100% on point. Although i'd say if AUS where to play South Africa it would be super-close.

good we held on for one more session, this will most likely end before tea...will go down as one of the heaviest home defeats for india in a long time i would think...

SA has indeed the better bowling attack. There is no doubt about it. So I think it will be SA with Aus in close tow. Zak is getting older and had he been born in England, he'd be averaging in the mid 25s.
