But there's no point having someone bat and score at a tick of about 50 (exaggeration, but you know...). Even under Test match conditions, Nash has problems rotating the strike sometimes (like the 3rd Test). All that aside from the fact that he has an awful OD record, suggesting that he doesn't stick around long anyway. The man has only passed 50 once in 37 innings.

That said, I'd love it if he came in and did well. I really like Nash a lot. But he wasn't even good in OD cricket in WI, while he scored well in FC cricket.

When we had all our experienced first-teamers, such as Sarwan, Shiv, Bravo, etc, I'd agree with you....

Nash wouldn't fit into an ODI side then. But this side is lacking in experience, and a cool head like Nash could play a role there. Hey, at least it should ensure that we bat out the 50 overs!

He's only played nine ODIs for the West Indies, so I'd give him more of a run. I wouldn't place as much emphasis on his List A results, because most of them were in a stronger Aussie domestic scene.

Well that batting performance was frighteningly bad. Without Shiv, Sarwan and Big Bravo we have no capabilities in the middle overs and Pollard and Smith will be coming in way too early. Deonarine and Simmons have to step it up and bat through the innings, even if their strikerate is only 75/80 ish.

Incidentally, I have a really good feeling about Pollard in his 2nd stint at ODI level. I know it's only 1 match but his body language in the field and at the crease looks so much more confident. He really looked like he belonged yesterday.

The less said about Dwayne Smith the better though!

Yeah, Smith doesn't seem to cut it at international level, does he?

I would like to see Smith and Morton rested, and Hinds and Nash played....

Is there a case for the inclusion of Sammy?

Dowlin cops a bad rap around here IMO.

I've never been a great fan of Domlin, personally, but I must admit he's earned his dues, and deserves a run in the side....

However, if he fails to produce the runs on this tour, I can't see him staying in the ODI side.

Big picture is what we're looking at here. That's the performance of Roach and Pollard primarily, Simmons and Deonarine potentially, and guys like Ramdin needing some runs. This was never going to be a series West Indies could compete in, given injuries.

yeah, if the WI win one or two of the ODIs, that would be an accomplishment for me....

This is a chance for the youngsters and fringe players to state a claim to the side.

Now Darren Bravo is back and Barath played a club game over the weekend maybe it's time to recall them by the 3rd ODI, because Dowlin, Morton and Smith are just emabarrassing to watch, as for Ramdin, he's a waste of time with the bat imo, i just don't think he'll ever take his FC form into the international scene, that's why i'm praying Dowrich is the real deal.

With all due respect to the Aussies, this is not a terribly important ODI series....

It makes much more sense to allow Barath, the Bravos and Benn to recover properly in the Caribbean, and to play themselves back into form in domestic cricket. There will be a home ODI series against Zimbabwe, and then there's the wolrd 20/20 champs. Those series should be the goal of these players.

As for Miller, we'll be better able to assess his worth in ODI cricket after he's played in this entire ODI series....

Tbh, I think Andre Fletcher or some other more aggressive one day keeper should play for the Windies. Ramdin offers nothing in the form of batting that low, and even if he were to be pushed up he'd still be mostly a stodger and you guys have enough of those.

But in the OD matches he's played in the West Indies he's probably been worse than those in Australia. I don't see the benefit of someone who has so much trouble rotating the strike.

I'd bring Nash in to open with Gayle. Would be a good foil, will punish anything wide and has proved he at least has the talent to play the Australian bowling competently. I know Morton has done it in the past but he was never going to stay in the other night.

I'd also have Deonarine in the top 4. I know his record doesn't look flash but he just looks a better bat than Simmons for mine.

Ramdin make sense in the best WI ODI XI batting @ 8. But Inbox 24's suggestion about Fletcher definately makes sense for T20s, since he could be a lethal opener in that format as he displayed vs AUS in the T20 WC & vs ENG in the Standford exhibition international.

He missed half the tournament after he got injured in the first match!

Absolutely reckon he's still not 100% - side strains take a fair whack of time to recover from. But he is a lot more committed than he gives off so it's not easy to keep him off the field.
