Shame your explanation was complete bollocks though really.

How many more points did Barcelona accrue last season compared to in 07/08? Are you trying to tell me that this was solely down to weaker opposition?

So the fact that they've won many more honours and have their talisman performing at a much higher level since then does not represent an achievement? ITSTL.

Amazing that this is all, coincidentally, because every other team around Barcelona has just fallen off. Barcelona, however, like frozen wine, has remained the same with age.

EDIT: Don't take my word on the wine thing.

It's weird, because intuitively I'd have though that having several different players would affect their ability as a football team.

Whoa. We can't even fight this thing on a level of basic logic. Don't bring advanced logic like that into it!

How is it bollocks. Thats the facts of what going on at Barca ATM.

About 15-20 points & they finished 3rd that year. IIRC

But points aren't always a clear guide. Thats like saying because a batsman averaged more in one year than the previous year is a definite sign of improvment. Why can't be be a sign that a collaboration of very good seasons, is a sign of a extended peak period instead of one particular season proving that the team is on the up?.

Barcelona for me since 05/06 when Ronaldinho was the big man, have been playing very world class football for the last 4 seasons. They had a little hiccup in 06/07 & 07/08 as Real won back to back titles, but they has alot to do with Ronaldinho's decline. But they have regained their mojo of 05/06 in 08/09 as they won the trebble & since then Messi has being doing what Ronaldinho of 05/06 did.

Fact is the core of Barca team of the last 4 years is the same. From 07/08 team XI that United beat Zambrotta, Eto'o, Deco have been replaced by Alves, Keita, Ibrahimovic. Those 3 guys have aided in maitaining the blaugrana's style of quality of football instead of making them look worse, affecting team moral etc

So they have changed over time then. Thanks for clearing that up.

Replacements can affect by making the team worse, better or maintaining the same high standard.

Look at United. Ronaldo & Tevez out - Valencia & Owen in clearly United has gotten worse although still reamaning strong.

Barca replacing Zambrotta, Deco, Eto'o with Alves, Keita & Zlatan where pefect like for like replacements that aided in Barca maintaining a high standard.

I won't even address the other two, but Zlatan is like-for-like for Eto'o? Do you even watch football at all?

Personnel only, rather than the regular standard & style of ***y football which is what is being argued here.
I give up.

"then Messi has being doing what Ronaldinho of 05/06 did" - this implies he wasn't doing what Ronaldinho did before.

How did you interpret it like that?. I was never comparing them as players of course they are different.

Given that Barca play 4-3-3, Zlatan ATT was only striker in Europe (outside of Torres who they couldn't get) who would have fit into that formation without having to take a while to adjust, thus potentially affecting the teams output in the short term.

And now they're looking at the Crystal Palace-Wolves highlights, and clearly they have no clue what the offside rule is. Because they're saying the second goal is a bit iffy for offside purposes, when the right back is clearly a couple of feet ahead of Butterfield (or whatever his name is). Aaaaaaaargh!

Why am I watching this? Because it's the only sports programme of any interest on right now.
It depends on who's on. Some are quite knowlegeable.

Ronaldinho 05/06 was at the peak of his powers i.e when Barca won 3-0 at the Bernabeau the crowd their clapped his performance blah blah. Messi has been playing like Dinho 05/06 since 2007/08 based on what i've seen, instead of just this season as others have suggested just because his rate of goal scoring has gotten better.

IMO Messi has been in an extended peak since 07/08 since he scored that Maradona type goal.

Seriously, man, you should get that checked out:
Good, perfect like for like replacements to suite the 4-3-3 formation that Barca play. If i had said "they where perfect like for like replacements with Zlatan, Keita, Alves being exactly the same as Eto'o, Deco, Zambrotta". Then with the later portion it would have been clear that i was saying the replacements where identical. But i didn't..
