Looking forward to the Royal Rumble, myself. I'm not quite up for staying up late, being that I have school on Monday, but may record it and give it a look as soon as I get home from school - the slight issue being preventing myself from checking out the results imbetween Monday morning and when I get to watch the PPV on tape.

Just watched TNA Impact 1/28/10 on youtube - found it an interesting show. Currently TNA is of more interest to me than WWE, though that'll likely change with the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania approaching. I just feel that the whole Hogan-Bischoff centric slant on things gives the show a lot of focus that is currently missing from WWE, given that they have three weekly shows, and no main authority figure such as a GM or Mcmahon but rather the ****ty Guest Host concept.

They have an authority figure on Smackdown tbf, two of them in fact.

I actually prefer when there is no major on-screen authority figure, and they just pop up from time to time when big decisions need to be made.

I disagree, anyway, that TNA has focus, though I haven't seen this week's yet. There is no structure, direction or forward planning, everything is about there and now and the production is really poor lately. And reinstating Foley at the start of the show...words fail me

But not one that anyone takes seriously.

I wasn't necessarily saying that an authority figure is necessary, it just gives a show some focus.

The storyline making seems a bit haphazard, but this intrigues me, nothing appears set in stone. However, by focus, I meant that the whole show is focussed toward the Hogan-Bischoff era, which is a good thing and keeps intrigue throughout the whole show.

Each to their own and it's always more fun when we disagree, and it's fair to say I am in total disagreement with you here.

Firstly, maybe they don't get taken seriously, both are comedic characters of sorts, alas they still have authority and make decisions. And it was Teddy Long (obviously in kayfabe) who made the decision that set about what would have been the angle of the year last year - Jericho & Edge teaming together, and when Edge returns that will still happen on the basis of that. Having weak tweener authority figures is for me preferable to a strong face or heel one where it all becomes very predictable (see Long's previous face spells, playa you will face....The Undertaker!)

As for the focus, well call me old-fashioned but for me that should be on the wrestlers. I am quite happy for there to be storylines and segments, but the focus of the show should be the performers. A wrestler-authority feud is good when done well, but I don't believe that many wrestling fans actually want to tune into a product whereby their main thought is I wonder what [authority figure] is going to do tonight.

And that brings me onto Hogan-Bischoff being the focal point of TNA - it's the main reason I find it to be really bad, because I don't care about them and I'm sure plenty of people agree with me. Hogan can talk about how he's going to push the young guys all he wants, every show so far has centred around him and the main storyline is is Hogan with the band? The Band need to piss off and so does Hogan.

That being said I am watching Impact more than ever at the moment, I find it to be like a car crash - I don't really want to see it but I can't take my eyes off it.

All IMO of course.

With Corrin on this one. Agree with everything just said, and I haven't even seen the most recent impact though, will have a read of the results in a mo, sounds amusingly bad.

Probably better if you watch on youtube before checking out the results, makes the show better, imo.

Maybe, I don't really have the time/can't be arsed to watch an entire show though. I obviously appreciate that you don't get the full effect of what has happened if you read and don't watch. But when I'm only watching for because of a "it's so bad, it' good" sort of reason, the appeal for me to sit through it again only to feel like I've wasted the last 2 hours of my life isn't all that great.

With the Royal Rumble on tomorrow, I thought I would list my predictions for the event.

30 Man Royal Rumble Match:

I think it's likely that either one of Triple H or Shawn Michaels would win this match. However, I still have this feeling that Edge is coming back. If he does and wins, it'll be absolutely amazing. I'm predicting that Edge will win the Royal Rumble.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: The Undertaker vs Rey Mysterio

Undertaker to win this. Should be an exciting match.

WWE Championship Match: Sheamus vs Randy Orton

Not sold on Sheamus as WWE Champion and I'd expect Orton to win this. However it wouldn't be so bad if WWE kept the faith in a young star like Sheamus and let him continue his WWE Championship run. I'm still expecting Orton to win.

ECW Championship Match: Christian vs Ezekiel Jackson

Should be an average match. Christian makes mostly everyone look good and he should pull Jackson through to an average match. It's a big test for Jackson and if he has a reasonable match, then he may come out looking like a star. I'd still expect Christian to win though.

Women's Championship Match: Michelle McCool vs Mickie James

Got no idea. I'll pick Mickie James.

Enjoy the show guys.

I think I agree with almost all of that. However, I think Sheamus will probably retain. These heel v heel type matches rarely see a title change, and I really see no benefit in Orton beating Sheamus one on one. I imagine Sheamus will probably retain through some dubious circumstances, perhaps interference from Cena, Kingston or DX, which then sets up a triple threat at No Way Out, where Orton will then win the title. That way Sheamus can get the rub from being the champ for one more month and Orton can get it in time for WM build up if that is what they are planning.

That actually sounds really good, except for the fact that it'll be an Elimination Chamber match at the next PPV. I doubt WWE would let Sheamus keep the belt though and I think Randy Orton will probably win the WWE Championship.

More Twitter fun as Chris Jericho responded to Eric Bischoff's statement yesterday: "Bischoffs right I can't headline in TNA...cos I'm not in my 50s." Bischoff had said during the State of TNA address on Bubba the Love Sponge's show that he'd like to have Chris Jericho in TNA, but doesn't see him as a headliner.
WAG, too right. Had Jericho joined TNA after his break from Wrestling rather than joining with the E I think he would have been a huge signing for them. But if he went there now he would just appear as another WWE cast off, and besdies, he's doing a great job right where he is, myhero.

On a side note, will stay up and watch the Rumble tonight, have decided.

Haha Edge, WAG, genuinely didn't think he would do it after eliminating Jericho so quickly. Should work out nicely. Wrestlemania really starting to look good as well. Would say it is now almost certain that we will get HHH vs HBK, Orton vs DiBiase, Edge vs Jericho (Imagine Jericho will pick up one of the world titles at the next PPV), Cena vs Batista/Undertaker. Decent mark out sort of card there.

What an awesome Royal Rumble. Great matches from top to bottom and an awesome Royal Rumble event. I called it in my predictions, Edge wins the Royal Rumble! Best booking decision WWE has made in quite some time.

Was genuinely surprised at how quickly Triple H got eliminated. But looking back, he was pointing to his quad and it seems that he's pulled his quad again. I hope I'm wrong but it seems like Triple H got injured during the Royal Rumble match.

Edge going on to main event Wrestlemania is fantastic. WWE were really stale without him and he adds so much to the shows.

Shawn will fight Taker at Mania now, I'm sure

Not a classic event but it did it's job. Will post more thoughts in the morning.
