Why would you pick his former team? You could've picked Preston then as well.
Also, international superstars traditionally play for successful clubs, that should be blatantly obvious to anyone.
Because I found out I'd be watching the Prem at the end of the previous season so chose Utd when he was still there then he was off to Madrid.

Yeah I figured they were a good team and picked them when I played in England on football games but it never clicked with me how awesome the club was as the trophies didn't really matter. Wasn't chasing glory or anything, just picked Beckham's team, they seemed ok and stuck with them. Wasn't until I started watching and did research that I found out just how big the club was. No one I knew followed overseas football unless they were very well off. It's only over the last few years that I've been able to watch lots of football.

City still trying to buy Adam Johnson from 'boro (his contract expires at the end of the season). Bump the offer up by a few million and offer 'boro some youth players in return on loan as a sign of good faith.

The price being thrown around today by a couple of media outlets is £18 million - if that's true then I would hope it's the total deal (ie transfer fee plus agents fees plus wages for four years) because otherwise we're entering the twilight zone.

Still far too much though. Could get a foreigner equally as good for half that, which is largely the cause of one of the major issues of English football.

Indeed - see Bent, Darren and Bentley, David for recent examples. Given his (near) complete lack of experience at the highest level we could also add Smalling, Christopher to that list, though obviously I hope he proves to be more than worth the money.

Carrick, Michael too that list.

If he is really worth 18m, then I'm Angel Dealbert (plays for Valencia and is a centre back).

Yeah, overpaid there too. Though to be fair Carrick was "only" £14 million up front, and Mike could smugly point to the fact that the only reason he ended up costing the full £18 million was because of the three League titles and the Champions League United have won since they signed him...

Roma striker Stefano Okaka has joined Fulham on loan for the rest of the season. He gave Roma a perfect goodbye present as he scored the winner in Roma's 2-1 win over Siena.

From the beeb:

0952: DONE DEAL: First deal of the day involving a Premier League club done and dusted and it's Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara, 29, who has joined Scottish giants Celtic on loan until the end of the season, with the Bhoys having an option to buy.

Done deal
0949: Football League Fletch: "DONE DEAL: One exit to tell you about at Newcastle, with veteran midfielder Geremi signing for Turkish side Ankaragucu. The 31-year-old had not played for the Magpies since 20 October."

0947: Netherlands striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who has been linked with about 15 Premier League teams over the past few weeks, has committed his short-term future to AC Milan, even though he is struggling to get a game at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. "For the time being, I am happy here," said the 26-year-old.

0944: Hotting up. Now Chelsea have been linked with a move for Boro's Man City target Adam Johnson, while Birmingham have been linked with a move for Red Bull Salzburg's Austrian striker Marc Janko. How many people really want to see a naked Carlo Ancelotti, I'm wondering?

From cuddlybunnycuddles on 606: "Heard from a solid contact within White Hart Lane (at Spurs Lodge) that Tottenham have agreed a deal for Ben Foster from Man Utd. Fee said to be £5.5m."

BBC Radio 5 live's senior football reporter Ian Dennis: "Stoke have made a £3m bid for Portsmouth keeper Asmir Begovic."

The Foster rumour has to be bogus surely.

Crazy rumours of Roman Pavlyuchenko going to Arsenal and Michael Owen joining Aston Villa. Surely not.

A picture of Denilson's hard work tracking back for United's third goal yesterday. Was working so hard that the ****ing referee overtook him and left him for dead as they countered. This **** is meant to be our defensive midfielder? He did something very similar for their 2nd goal as well and against Stoke when he let that speedster Sidibe down the flank to cross.

Now I can forgive a player not being quite good enough but not actually giving enough of a **** to put in a decent shift is infurating. **** off you pedestrian ****, how in the ****ing wide world is this guy a walk up start for our team? Honeslty would prefer Eastmond than this tool.

On another note, was speaking to an older gooner at work today and he reckons Cesc right now is reminding him a lot of Liam Brady's last days at the club when there was no hope in hell of us challenging Liverpool so he went to Juve to get himself the medals and platform his talents deserved. Even said people told him no-one thought he'd get into that team (much like the would Cesc play in front of Xavi or Iniesta talk).

Now I don't think the situation is thatd bad as there are plenty of excellent players along with the mediocre now and he is loyal to Wenger but it was interesting to hear from a guy who's seen a lot more of Arsenal than I have and is far more glass-full than any other Arsenal fan I've met.

Wasn't exactly the only one and him being level or just ahead of the ref would have made no difference.

In the second photo three CDMs have a headstart on Rooney, who's well ahead of all three in the last photo. The last defender did a horrible job just shepherding Park into a one on one, but it was partly because he was trying to cover players those three CDMs should have covered.

So much doomsday talk occurs after every match. Only a week ago Man U were about to fold, no good and the worst XI since jesus was a boy etc. Failure to consistently pick up 3 points when we travel North generally is what pulls our season apart. Been ages since I felt Arsenal would definitely not concede a goal.

The transformation by Wenger from a counter attacking team to help us play better in Europe is yet to bear fruit.

Worse, look at the Rooney goal. He was way in front when Park and Rooney were chasing. He took so much time that Rooney took the shot literally just in front of him, at the last second.

Rooney v Arsenal
