Yeah I agree mate but when we (SA) beat Australia...Hume our bowler got 3-35 and Hazlewood got 0-58 and McDermott got 1-50 I think. Pace isn't everything but I guess what TT & I are saying is that even though Hume has a good record this WC he probably won't be a future proteas prospect. It also might show that our openers are very good as well.
I wouldn't say that at this stage though. He has the skills necessarily, except for pace. And at his age he has time to add pace to his arsenal. Still a lot to be excited about I feel.

If I was 18 and averaging 33 in FC cricket, that I started playing at 16, I'd be happy with my efforts tbh.
What are the levels of Pakistani domestic cricket?? Don't forget many pitches are real good'uns as well.

But thats besides the point...I'm talking was he the best available when he was chosen. I doubt he was and it may have put him back in his career but its the Pakistani way of doing things.

It doesn't matter if the pitches are flat, and Pakistan's do seem to be decent enough for pace and spin anyway. It's still an inexperienced teenager scoring decent runs against experienced adults. And he's obviously been rated very highly anyway, to get the opportunity to play FC cricket at his age.

EDIT: Also worth noting that his List-A record is pretty good. And this is, after all, and ODI tournament.

You're quite the detective!

Roach and Taylor started playing senior cricket at 18 and Fidel was 19/20 when Lara plucked him out of obscurity and recommended him for West Indies. He'd bowled to Lara in the nets (in Trinidad, I think) and so impressed him that he gave him a career boost. Before that he'd taken 1 for 40odd (I think) in 1 match of FC cricket.

I can only speak for Trinidad and I do know of youngsters (one of whom is my cousin) who are involved with Queen's Park CC and they've played with and against T&T and WI cricketers on occasion. I'd say that for someone to get a recommendation out of that he'd have to look an outstanding talent though.
Believe me man it was very difficult to find young left-arm pacers from the Carribean, most of the left arm bowlers are damn spinners, it's incredible, when i looked at the bowling line up of our u19's apart from the one obvious superstar (Holder) the others were just dreadful and there was no lefty in sight, that's why i decided to have a look around, having the left arm option in the next few years could really take our bowling attack to the next level, hopefully young Stoll will be making his debut for the seniors very soon, he must be special to be on the selectors minds already, also i've got a Trini name to throw at you, apparently there's a sensational spinner in the making named Kissoondath Magram!!, he's said to be killing it at the youth levels and he's just been named in the Trini u23 squad, have you heard of him?.

The name sounds familiar, but I can't say I know anything more than that. As I said, I've been out of the country for a long time. Still settling back in. This guy should be the next spinner to get a shot for T&T though. He's WI U-19 graduate and has been taking wickets for fun in T&T trial matches for the past couple of years.

Yeah he's the one who got a ten wicket haul in a trial match not that long ago  , he hasn't seemed to have got a proper chance with the national team yet though, have you seen him play?.

I've seen highlights of his trial match bowling on TV. :p That's it though. Was hard to tell how much of it was down to the pitch and how much to him, but to take 10 wickets in any innings is a big effort.

Good game this, Marsh has been really excellent but if he goes this match is Sri Lanka's.

Sphincter-tightening stuff here. Aussie only need 3 off 17 balls, but they're down to their last two wickets, and it was a nervous previous over. #10 now on strike.

2 runs slashed over backward point and the commentator is an idiot, yelling "that's it". It was only ever going to be two.

Mitch Marsh is the best young batsman to come into the Australian system for a decade.

Youngest player to debut for Western Australia in over 70 years.

Only 18, first class batting average of over 45 at his age

Can bowl at around 145km/h.....

I don't think he has bowled in the u/19 tournament yet which is suprising.

Could find himself at number 6 for the next Ashes tour of England.

Highly unlikely he'll be in the Ashes side, just not enough time to convince the selectors. But agree he looks to be a great talent and it shouldn't be long before he makes the side.

If Marsh is an all rounder, then why isn;t he bowling in this tournment. He is not injuried anymore. He captaincy must be like White, "I'll let anyone bowl, before me"

I think 18 months is long enough if he puts in some performances.

He will definately be well entrenched in the ODI side by that stage.

Depending on North, Hussey may not survive till then.

Marsh is a genuine #3/#4 batsman.

Been given orders by WA not to bowl apparently.

Make no mistake though, he would be one of the quickest bowlers in the tournament.

Gets good bounce too.

Happy that our aussie U19's have made the grand final, hopefully we can win it..has been a while since we won one. Well done to pakistan aswell some encouraging signs for Pakistani cricket.

Wonder if there will be any changes to the Australian team? Kane Richardson to come in for Doran or Buchanan maybe?

The sad part is that some of the most brilliant players in u19 never make it to the top for their lack of perceived "civil status" or they are simply poor from a village....Remember Anwar Ali in 2006 .....Poor guy never got a chance to prove his worth at the top level....
