*Official* Pakistan in Australia

I'd have no problems if the Oz selectors threw a few batsmen to the lions during this series (including North) and let the best man win the no. 6 position

Guys like Ponting need this series like a hole in the head so they should adopt a similar policy to the bowlers and play some prospects
Naturally, this wont happen so it'll come down to either North, Marsh or White
Macdonald?

I'm not a particularly huge fan of ODIs but Cam White has come out and put some hard runs consistently now. He looks better and better everytime I see him bat.

This pitch was a 300+ track, had it not been for Younis's net practice..........what a lame middle order Pak has....looks good only on paper ATM. Really what happened to those good old 60s 70s from Mo Yo and YK. All those quick singles.............

I don't what will happen to Pakistan cricket, its quite depressing.

That was a brilliant performance by White. Man, he has become a pretty good player. Well paced and brilliant under pressure.

Clint McKay has got a future in broadcasting/commentating. His performance with the mic is one of the better ones I've seen of players in recent memory.

Cameron White has his deficiencies but when he gets going it is as entertaining as anyone. Is there merit in the call for replacing North with White in the test side?

No. White is nothing more than an average first class batsman. He is only the 3rd of 4th best batsman in the Victorian Shield team, and miles behind some of the other candidates. A first class average that is hyper-inflated by bashing County attacks at Taunton (64.97 for Somerset compared with 36.27 for Victoria). More than deserves a spot in the ODI side, but needs to prove himself in the longer form of the game before he should be considered again for Test selection.

Ordinarily I'd agree but his tons in England and here had a real sense of maturity about them. Looked really solid in between the slogs. Reckon his batting's turned a corner now he's dropped bowling so I'd be surprised if he was rank in Test whites.

Can make some big scores when set and seems to be on the improve as far as getting set. I'd back him.

Agreed.

Could he be any worse value than North?

He's younger, he's a better fieldsman, and his batting has more scope for improvement - more upside.

Plus he's not the most qualified candidate, something that seems to get a big tick from the Oz selectors

I dont think that he's technically sound enough to be above average but I've seen worse players have success at test level and he is an excellent slipper

I for one won't complain if he is selected and performs well, I guarantee to be the first one to type OMG CAMZ WHITE RULES in the appropriate thread after he scores his first Test ton. Just not a firm believer he deserves his shot yet.

Would have bee great to have both Symonds & White in the ODI team ATM.
No way would Andrew Symonds deserve a place in the team now though. He was a champion player, but not any more. I honestly don't think he would be able to handle the extra workload of a 50 over match.

Indeed. Picking White now would be just like when Symonds was picked to tour SRI 03/04 which is absed on ODI rather than strong FC batting. Which by AUS standards is not ideal.

If North is to be dropped (which he should be although it looks like he wont). Just bring back Hughes to open with Watto - Katich back down @ 4 - drop Hussey down to # 6.

Schofield's Law again? Just because it didn't work for one player, does not mean it will go the same with with another, no matter how similar they might look. In some ways, they're actually very different anyway. And for Symonds, I raise you Blewett; a bloke picked on ODI form, not FC form, and who was an instant success (for a while) and ended up playing about 40 Tests.

History is a guide, not a determinant. Particularly when you're talking about different players.

As it stands, reckon they'll go this way again anyway.

His current form probably doesn't deserve a place yes. But if circumstances since the ODI series vs T20 WC hand played on differently i'd say Roy would be just fine ATM,. I reckon he he probably doesn't take cricket that seriously anymore since he is pretty much is a T20 freelancer these days - rather than him losing his wonderful ability in a matter of 6-8 months.
