*Official* India in Bangladesh

haha. Disagree with Jono here. Fair point to say if it was Ponting doing the claiming, he'd have been roasted over coals, but fact is Sehwag was proven right. Love how Pakistan are lambasted for losing a test in Australia after dominating day 1, but the same treatment isn't reserved for Bangladesh. Clearly an irrational case of sticking up for the underdog and sticking it to the proven performer. Bangladesh are clearly an ordinary side as of now.

The point is that they didn't perform like an ordinary side in the test.

Laxman out of the next game. No replacements named which means Murali Vijay gets a game. Woot!
Considering Vijay is an opener, I wouldn't be surprised if Karthik retains his place. We have seen middle order players getting promoted but seldom the other way around in Indian cricket. I will be very surprised (pleasantly albeit) to see Vijay coming in at No.6 but it is not good for him or Indian cricket in the long term.

The point is that you pick 20 wickets to win. Bangladesh had no chance of winning it even if they had picked up the 20 wickets on offer.

Aye. The trademark "compete reasonably well for one day before being dominated for the rest of the match" is becoming more common, which can only be a good thing. Still think Sehwag has been vindicated though. The cricinfo headline was gold, but you had to chuckle at people insisting Bangladesh had taught Sehwag some kind of lesson because they ended the first day of a five-day test match very slightly ahead.

As much as it is heartening to see Bangladesh put up a decent fight in this test match against the number 1 test team in the world, I dont think there is anything wrong with Sehwag's statements.

He is right, Bangladesh failed to take 20 wickets..is it disrespectful? Yes..but this is sports and you have to compete, and those who cant compete are not respected. I am sure Shakib al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahman are respected by the Indian team now because they performed.

The best response Bangladesh could have provided was by picking up 20 wickets because as an underdog, you should not open your mouth but shut them up with your performance. Its like how everyone in the Australian media, Ponting, Warne dismissed Jonathan Trott before the 5th Ashes test match. The gentleman never opened his mouth..and responded with a match saving century..and his best response is the fact that the Ashes is in his hands and not in Ponting's. When you are not a proven performer, you shouldnt open your mouth and let your performance do the talking and thats why I loved Shakib's attitude here. He refused to get drawn in to the whole verbal war and let his bowling to the talking and he bowled beautifully.

Not Terrible
Bangladesh are still definitely the worst Test team but they've shown that at home they can play top class cricket over long periods of time, a feat they have never been able to do before Shakib came into the team.

Rahim  and the fact Tamim, Mahmudallah and Shakib all performed well is all very sweet to me.

Whatever it takes!!!
Once I could have said it might have been just a slip of tongue or unintended slander. But repeating this he is looking like an idiot. He might be a great batsman but if he continues to talk like a village idiot, he is not doing himself nor anyone else any good.
AWTA... why waste the verbal duels and mind games on Bangladesh? My view has always been that you give back to teams who dish it out but needlessly starting something with a team who are basically the worst in the world, albeit improving under Shakib... And it felt bad seeing Mushfiqur Rahim complain about India's sledging.. The bowlers should just shut up and try and get wickets instead of sledging. Zak used to be a good example but this time, him and Sree were easily overboard. I only watched highlights so maybe I missed out on other instances of sledging...

Pretty sure they were responding to the needless verbal abuse they had to cop from the Bangladeshi's on day 1.

well, that was because of Viru's words... If this goes on like this, Ind-Bang is gonna become the new Ind-Aus..
Haah, well, then they should have restricted their abuse to Sehwag :p Pretty pointless abusing every departing batsman who had nothing to do with the issue. If this is what their behave is like on the rare occasion they get to be on top, I don't have a problem with them staying at the bottom for years. Besides, this won't become the new Ind-Aus, because unlike Aus, Bangladesh are a very ordinary side

haha.. yeah it was quite amusing.
Yeah i don't mind seeing them at the bottom..... they probably would be the most annoying team if they actually won few games.
It was quite amusing seeing some of the comments by Bangldeshi players before T20 2009...just because they beat India in 2007 world cup.

lol.. I agree with that to an extent but then people do get fired up sometimes. Hopefully, next test will see much better behaviour from both sets..

Complain?

I believe his exact words were 'The Indian players were calling me 'schoolboy. I enjoyed it.'

I'd hate to hear how sounds when he gives praise.

The Indian media reported that Mushfiqur said there was too much sledging going on and that they expected better behaviour from the Indian side... I posted based on that.. You can check out the article in thehindu.com if you want.. Can't be arsed browsing around for something I read in the morning...
