Neither.

Just am continuing to hope Tremlett is fit this coming summer & we get Rankin in the test set-up. Our pace bowling depth at the moment is the worst i've ever seen in English cricket. Slowly but surely the DARK 90s is coming back..
Well done on not answering the question.

I thought Flower said we're going to play with 2 spinners? If Tredwell's not going to play either Flower's a liar or he really admires KP's bowling :p
Ah, I didn't know that. Fair enough. Why two offies? Seems strange.

I don't expect them to play Tredwell and Swann because they're both offies, so he's probably just there for backup. Rashid's quite obviously not good enough at the moment so you don't particularly want to bring him for experience then end up with him in the team when Swann breaks down. They probably have other plans for him in any case.
Based on what? How can a guy get picked for a big tour like SA (and not look bad as he didnt play) and then not for an easy development tour like Bangladesh?

What was the point of taking him to Africa? What do people really expect Tredwell to do in his International career?

Blame Corrin if It's wrong.
Flower said we would definitely be playing two spinners, I reckon a spinner will just replace Anderson who deserves a rest most out of everyone in the team, except maybe Collingwood.
Does seem a little bit strange which is why seemingly everyone expected Rashid to go on tour and play.

This squad highlights a combination of poor selection policies & lack of quality depth in English cricket. Not much more can be said.

- Morgan should have been in the test squad.

- Collingwood should have been made ODI captain. Cook should not even be in the ODI squad even againts BANG.

- Rashid defiantely deserved a try, given that they have been grooming all this time.

- Bresnan should have been in the test squad ahead of whoever Shazad is. But then again Shazad selection shows the real lack of real quality depth in pace bowling stocks ATM.

- Luke Wright's continued selection in the test squad is disheartening.

At least they got rid Davies........................for now haaa
Besed on what? He's been good in the ODI side, but he should actually try scoring runs at First Class level before he should be considered for Test selection.

Yeah but don't you know, runs in domestic cricket don't count so ODIs are where we should judge our potential Test players. Don't ask where we get the ODI players though, nonetheless it is a FACT that our domestic cricket suxxxxxxx

International Debutant
Mark Davies was called up to the England squad as cover for Anderson/Sidebottom. He then injured his ankle and went home.

They said that Rashid had lost his confidence. He should have been nowhere near the one day side but should have played in the West Indies Test with Swann. The selectors want Rashid to go back to county cricket and get his confidence back. Then again can you believe what story they come up with after saying Onions was tired. Onions had said he wasn't. This would have been the perfect opportunity for Rashid, loss of confidence or not.

As for Shahzad who has been around for 5 minutes and hasn't played a full season, they see someone athletic, who has a good work ethic and is accurate and 85mph. This is from bowling in the nets twice to the England batsmen in Pretoria. He probably snarled at the batsmen a few times. I think that it's been Bresnan - Wright - and now Shahzad on trial as a bowling Test all rounder. No reason was given to the public why Bresnan only played three Tests but he has been told he has to work on some things whatever they are. Maybe it will be a shoot out between Wright and Shahzad in the Test warm up matches for an all rounder. Flower and Strauss don't seem to think Wright was ready for Test cricket in South Africa.

As i've said before. It wouldn't kill to go againts the tradition this one time & do like the Asian sides, West Indies & pick players based on a bit of raw talent.

Since when is "neither" one of "Davies or Shazhad" ?
Haaa, yo put it this way if someone had a gun to my mothers head & they asked pick one of Davies or Shazhad to play for/be in the ENG squad. I wouldn't pick either - thus mommy would have to die..

You've seen Davies play 3 times 3 years ago, and when did you last watch Shazhad? Given that you pretty much admitted to having never heard of him.

Honestly, it's a left-field selection that seems strange (which you couldn't say of Davies) but as usual you're jumping to conclusions and running your mouth. You're like a broken record.

I last saw Davies bowl in 2009 in FC game that was shown on sky. I said that before

Left-field selections are just as bad as selectorial errors, as picking a player with no creditable FC credentials (although this may fluctuate given the standard of FC cricket in ENG). I.e Darren Pattinson vs SA 08, Gavin Hamilton & Flintoff to SA 99/00, Luke Wright to SA 08/09, Rikki Clarke to BANG 02/03, Ian Salisbury to PAK 2000 etc, Amjad Khan to WI 08..etc

Me rubbishing davies & you guys backing him is the same thing. So as long as i see him being given any recognition, i will rubbish him. Simple clash of idelogies..

I wasn't defending the left-field selection, simply suggesting that your reaction is OTT

And as we've all been saying over and over again - nobody is or was saying Davies is going to be the best international bowler ever, simply that to write him off is ridiculous given his domestic achievements.

Shazhad was on the Lions tour to South Africa, so I suppose it's not totally out of left field.

I supported the selection of Morgan but he does have a terrible record in Bangladesh and struggles on slow, low surfaces see the World Cup where he was a real disappointment. England selectors I doubt were considering that when they omitted him but it would be a viable reason for Morgan's omission.
