You think Australia 'should've' scored 400 with the deck in that state on day one? You're either delusional, or Mark Nicholas in character well after the day's play has ended.

Woot. Wow. How the **** did we win that. Kudos to the Aussies for bowling well and holding their nerve in the last innings, and to Huss and Siddle for their batting today. Kamran Akmal's terrible keeping has cost his team a test win in Oz and maybe a series win - although if the Pakistan team weren't so mentally fragile, they still should have won. Great escape. A few years ago you'd wonder whether a fix had been made.

North to be dropped for Katich for Hobart. Aamer in for Gul IMO.

EDIT: Massive :wub: to Hauritz as well. Second test in a row he's taken five to bowl Aus to victory against a team that is meant to be good at playing spin. Respect.

I dont think the pitch was responsible for Australias first innings low score, Clarke maybe but the rest cant blame the pitch. But I guess thats not the point, Ponting would have been critisized regardless of what he did.

The biggest thing for me is that this test has finally laid to rest the importance of the First Chance Average. Hussey compiled the match defining innings despite the first, 2nd and 3rd chances. Does that devalue Hussey's innings? No way.

Rest in peace First Chance Average.

Heh, much love to those who ridiculed me yesterday for suggesting you shouldn't take anything for granted with Pakistani teams.

Had a great arvo with the mates watching the implosion happen. The Indian and Aussie in me loved every moment.

Osman Samiuddin's article about pathetic Yousuf's pathetic captaincy summed up my thoughts today..

I have always had issues with Yousuf's spineless attitude as a batsman, a player and for the last one month, his spineless and timid attitude as a captain. Any leader who hopes for God to send rain after throwing away their wickets is a terrible leader..period.

There is no one else to blame more than Mohammad Yousuf today.
I think he might as well retire now with some dignity left before he humiliates himself more. It is clear he is more interested in giving religious talks in mosques in Sydney than win a test match..and his priorities were not right..so he better leave cricket and do what he wants to do. Look at Graeme Smith's batting, look at Chris Gayle's batting..thats how a captain should bat when your team has their backs against the wall.

This series will prove what I have been saying about his batting abilities for a long time..that he cant perform against decent bowling attacks overseas nor can he perform when it matters. Lot of people talk about his batting average of 54 but hopefully those people he fooled by smashing mediocre bowling attacks on flat decks will come to realize that his batting average is simply a joke and a facade.

After this performance..I have no problems in saying that Australia thoroughly deserved to win this test match...They have all the qualities of a strong side..never to give up, never to stop believing and ability to come back at any time...
I still dont have much regard for Hauritz as a spinner..regardless of his success against some pathetic batsmen..all he needs is a Sehwag to show him where he belongs. Yes Bollinger, Johnson and Siddle are impressive no doubt..but not Haurtiz..Herath destroyed Pakistan in summer last year..and fooled a lot of people..only for India to show him where he belongs.

After this defeat, Pakistan will be so low on confidence..I doubt they can come back at all..so its another 3-0 to Australia..well done.

Time for some serious thinking for Yousuf, Misbah and Kamran about their cricket...Kamran might need a break..Yousuf and Misbah - I am not sure if they really have a future in test cricket anymore.

Wow, what an amazing victory. Makes me really proud to be Australian.

Feel sorry for the Pakistani players and supporters though, they must be absolutely gutted. No team should ever have a 200 run first innings lead and still somehow lose. I think the deciding factor was how many catches we took and they dropped.

Seemingly some unusual captaincy from both sides; regardless, Australia won so Ponting can be a hero (as opposed to an idiot if we had lost).

And yes, Australia should've batted better, but a par score on that was 220-250 max. The thing about a pitch with as much life as that is that it gets inside the batsman's head. Hence on a green one, you will see a lot of poor shots ie Hussey, Haddin and actually, while you mention it, Clarke (why drive on the up with a guy decking it both ways at will?). They can't score in their traditional ways so they go outside their game. In an ideal world they wouldn't, but there's not enough cricket played on these types of wickets to adjust to it. Simply put, Ponting put a lot of pressure on his fellow batsmen (and I don't suscribe to that Edgbaston '05 syndrome rubbish, incidentally).

The pitch was going to get flatter as the Test wore on, which it did. Nothing in the pitch caused any of the Pakistan wickets to fall on day four. Just poor batting.

And I don't believe for a second Ponting would have been criticised either way. The way I see it, if Australia had won the toss and bowled they'd have won by a lot more. Yes, again that's a 'what if'..but winning a Test after making a certain decision at the toss doesn't make it the best choice. The other option could have made it easier, in a Test that Pakistan should have won.
