*Official* Pakistan in Australia

There is plenty in this pitch for both seam and spin bowlers and if Pakistan bowl competently tomorrow they should win comfortably. With Asif in the side, one would expect this to be a likely scenario.

Unless we see a drastic reversal in the conditions, there is pretty much 0% chance of a draw. Australia with the exception of Siddle, who was unlucky, bowled poorly today, and I am glad that Hauritz got stuffed on a pitch that was assisting him significantly, because, well hes nowhere near as good as 41 wickets @ 32 a piece makes him look.

Indeed. Not too much batsmen have used their feet enough & tried to really hit him off his lenght enough to date in tests. Really top players of spin, should really smoke him..

C'mon ****'s brilliant days play for ya one more session of batting maybe or 5 overs will really boost the lead and if Asif continues to bowl this well we could win by an innings and more. GET IN THERE. Don't let us down now!

If North is to be dropped, who should replace him?

INB4 Watson at 6, Hughes to open.

I really see no problem with North. If we reaaaally need to replace him then perhaps McDonald? But he provides a pretty reasonable part-time spin option so who knows.

IMO, Rogers to open and move Watson to 6.
Watson has to bat top four IMO; just looks so much more comfortable there. Perhaps Watson or Katich to four with Hussey to six could work. I don't really know, but if North gets dropped it really does have to be for an opener at the moment and I'd be very reluctant to bat either of the current openers below four.

Agree with this, anything to move Watson out of the opening position and to have him replaced by Rogers (I would accept Phil Jaques as second choice) seems logical to me.

Just don't think any of the middle-order options in Australia can truly lay claim to North's spot. The likes of Bailey or Voges simply have not put in big enough seasons yet. The only cricketer who I believe may be worth a shot as a straight swap for North is Klinger, but I would hardly say Klinger is a significanly better option than North.

Watto @ 6 = complete disaster. You really want him coming out facing spin from ball one?
Yes realised that issue as soon as I made my post, just think Watson is heading to some form of physical breakdown with his workload as an opening bat and first change seam-bowler. Something has to give.

Good play by Pakistan on the whole, although they could well regret not knuckling down and putting another 50-100 runs on. Still think this is very much Pakistan's game obviously - Asif would need to be injured first thing tomorrow or one of the batsmen would have to play the innings of their life with some good back up to make any result besides a Pakistan win the most likely outcome.

For those saying that Siddle was unlucky, I would just say that 90% of the balls I saw today from the quicks seemed to be on the short side (those that didn't go flying over Haddin's head for five wides), and that they'd all benefit from getting a video of Asif from the first innings and looking at the length he bowled on this pitch. There were a lot of "Flintoff" deliveries that made the batsmen play and miss, without being likely to actually draw the edge.

Siddle constantly bowls too short. Even when he's pinned the batsman back in his crease with short balls he often fails to bowl the next one fuller.

Agree one of Hughes or Rogers should be the one to come in if North does get binned - I'd look at making Watson 3 and Punter 5. If we're not going to disrupt the openers, would Cam White be the worst idea in the world?

No, the worst idea would be Steve Smith. Cam White just a shade below the required quality to play as a pure specialist bat for mine. Would be an interesting turnaround, 18 months ago selected as a specialist leg-spinner, to only be reselected as a specialist batsmen.
