Morning all. Building a nice lead here.

Come on Ian Bell. This is exactly what you want from your number six.
He's looking good. When he came in yesterday, he looked somewhat nervous, but once he got a go vs Ntini, he broke free, I guess. Form then on, he scored runs at a more than healthy strike-rate. Once he got that 6 of Harris, I felt he came really good.

Having said this, I think he has a few chances too many already. Before this test, there was quite some talk about Cook & Bell being under pressure. Whereas I think that this was bag full of nonsense for Cook (stats show he improves every year....), Bell really really had a poor show for over a year. TBF, one very good innings won't make up for that.

Indeed, but now that he's been given this chance and he's taken it, we have to give him the rest of the series

It indeed seems weird to drop him now. But if he would fail in the 2nd innings (if there is one) and/or in the 3rd match, should he still be selected for the 4th?

Prior gone :(

To answer your question Stapel, I think 200 is a decent enough lead, gives us five sessions to bowl them out and then chase whatever we need to, bat any longer and they've got a decent chance of saving the game

After defending Broad's place at eight the other day, I might have considered sending Swann out to bash it about here

Yeah, you are right about that. However, what is the risk of slogging for, say, 5 overs? Oh well, maybe if Swann comes in, he will just do that anyway!

Bell came in under immense personal pressure, and has played beautifully.
I swear Michael Atherton used the exact same sentence.

Also noticed that Athers said people will say they were easy runs because they came after we already had some on the board, but that he doesn't think that's fair. When he said 'people', I wonder if he had a specific online community in mind?
