Not sure what i was doing in the first dig, going for the slog by the looks of things :P

Was after more time in the middle to push for a test spot, but looking bit less likely now. Well played Cloete!

New Zealand Make One Change For Second Test

Despite a good showing in the first test in Dunedin New Zealand selections have made one change to the team that suffered a 33 run loss to Cricketweb XI. Young fast bowler Tim Southee couldn't salvage his place in the team despite a three wicket haul in the first innings of the tour match for Northern Districts and has been replaced in the side by all rounder James Franklin. Selectors have admitted that Franklins batting ability played a part in his call up.

The NZ team is
1. BJ Watling
2. MJ Guptill
3. MS Sinclair
4. RL Taylor
5. NT Broom
6. DR Flynn
7. BB McCullum (Wicketkeeper)
8. DL Vettori (Captain)
9. JEC Franklin
10. DR Tuffey
11. BJ Arnel
12th Man: J Patel

Hmm, would've though Bond would be called up for the game. He isn't injured as such, just being rested. NZC can't think very highly of CW.

Word is he'll be back for game three if the series is alive, if not they wont risk him until the ODI's.

It's been great to pull the grey and yellow back on for the Cricket Web this week after what's seemed like ages away from national duty. The fact remains that we possibly have the worst national colour scheme since the West Indies in WSC, but nonetheless it's always a proud moment when you pull on that shirt.

For everything the papers have said about it being an understrength Kiwi lineup and a series that we simply can't afford not to win, they do often seem to miss the point that this is Test match cricket and, every ball, we're playing for our countries - and the other guys are, too. Particularly having been out of the arena so long, it's always a big ask to come up against 11 men gunning for you, and I think on the first couple of days we showed that ring rust.

Buts was immense, though: if it wasn't for him I don't think anything that happened on the following days would have been able to come about. Anything short, anything a fraction wide and he laced it between cover and point - it was a real treat to watch. Then, of course, Borcich stole the show. He's a brute in the nets when he wants to be (or, should I say, when we tell him that he can't have the PIN number for the pay channels until he's done the bleep test) and it was nice to see some other fellows on the receiving end of the short stuff for once. I also have to admit that I now do owe him as many films as he can watch before the next Test following that 80 - and, whilst it might not have been as elegant as Chris' first-innings knock, it was certainly effective and gave us bowlers the platform to finish things off.

The Northerns game showed how we're starting to hit our straps now. Cloete's proving that class is permanent and it's great to see all the seamers fighting for places with wickets on the board in the tour games. From a personal point of view, it's good to have a couple of days off, and work on the variations a little having really concentrated on that stock leggie for the first few weeks of tour. Haven't touched the batting, mind - I swear that's the first time I've made double figures twice round. Anyway, must be off, team meal this evening before we go out there and seal the series tomorrow.

Keep sending in your questions, readers, and I'll try to answer as many as I can in my next blog.

I knew the BCCI would ruin Test cricket, allowing coloured uniforms to make it look more like ODI's.

2nd Test: New Zealand vs Cricketweb XI
at Napier

Cricketweb XI took an unbeatable 2-0 lead as they overcame a spirited New Zealand side and the rain to record a comfortable nine wicket victory in the second test in Napier. The highly rated visitors could be forgiven for their rusty performance in the first test after more than a year away from the international circuit however a similar type of performance wasn't going to be tolerated this time around.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat and put together several reasonable partnerships but they lacked that one or two big scores in attempting to post a big first innings total. Neil Broom playing in his second test top scored for the hosts with 78 while star batsman Ross Taylor also posted a half century, the pairs 116 run partnership was the highlight of the Kiwi's total of 265. Mike Wilson continued his impressive bowling form as he took 3/45, despite taking two wickets seamer Greg Thomas was again taken to town by the home side's top order in going for 88 runs from 16 overs.

Cricketweb XI's reply was brutal and decisive, Will Kerr announced himself on the world stage as a truly great batsman with his maiden test and first class double century, his 217 included 29 fours and 2 sixes, Kerr shared in a 189 run stand with in form number 3 Andrew Cloete who contributed 134 runs of his own in what was his 23rd test match century. A smashing 85 from 72 by all rounder Mike Wilson put the match beyond reach for New Zealand as the Webheads were dismissed for 585. Brent Arnel again showed good talent in taking 6 wickets, James Franklin also took 3 but like his team mates was far too expensive.

With plenty of rain around the New Zealand second innings was interupted no less than six times as the hosts began to feel a draw was a real possibility. Despite slumping to 102/6 the lower order dug in and ensured the visitors would have to bat again to win the match, Daniel Vettori made his second contribution of the series with the bat as he made 63, James Franklin backed up his effort with the ball to top score with 64. A total of 346 meant Cricketweb XI were left with 27 to win. David Kennett had his best innings of the series with 3 wickets while Greg Thomas also again took wickets.

Again it started raining and the umpires called for an early tea break on day 5, but the visitors wouldn't be denied. After Hakon Mork fell for 8 it was left for Dan Smith and Andrew Cloete to knock off the runs which they did with ease.
