1st Test: New Zealand vs Cricketweb XI
at Dunedin
Day 3
Dan Smith went to 50 early on day three as the Webheads looked to consolidate the position they got themselves into late on day two. Five overs later he was joined by Cloete in bringing up a half century and the pair had knocked off the first innings deficet for the loss of just one wicket. The New Zealand bowlers weren't having much impact until Tim Southee brought the 143 run partnership to an end when he trapped Dan Smith infront for a brilliant 87, despite missing out on a century on debut he showed class and poise to get the team into a strong position. Cricketweb XI moved along to 210/2 at lunch with Butler and Cloete at the crease. As can happen though a break brought about the wicket New Zealand needed, Andrew Cloete fell six short of a century when he edged a ball to the keeper off the bowling of Arnel. Previously in form youngster Will Kerr failed for the second time in the match when we was out to Vettori with the score at 258, Butler fell not long after as he made his second contribution for the match with a patient 39. When Mike Wilson came and went in a short space of time Cricketweb XI were holding just a 138 run lead, they needed their lower order to form some partnerships.
Andrew Garven was looking solid until he gave his wicket away for 10 after doing so much hard work, if was now that fast bowler Nick Borcich decided to take matters into his own hands, in a display of aggression and power Borcich smashed his was to a test and first class best score of 80 off 123 balls. His knock included 10 fours and a huge 6 and his partnership with Kennett was key in getting Cricketweb back into the game. Thomas lasted just two balls and Neil Pickup negated four before stumps.

Cricketweb XI started day four hopeful of adding at least another 25 or 30 runs to their overnight total however just 7 runs were added when Pickup was bowled by Daryl Tuffey for 11, an excellent score of 383 meant New Zealand were chasing 255 runs for a rare test win.
Things didn't start well for Cricketweb when Watling and Guptill went out with the intentions of knocking the runs off very quickly, taking a particular liking to Greg Thomas the pair had put on 98 for the first wicket before Cricketweb got into action, that man Thomas picked up Guptill for an even 50, one run later David Kennett had Sinclair out for a duck and New Zealand were starting to get the shakes as lunch approached. With the score at 111/2 at the break the Kiwis were in the box seat but Cricketweb XI were on a roll. BJ Watling brought up his half ton just after the interval but he soon inexplicibly ran himself out and when Taylor went slashing at Thomas just a run later New Zealand certainly had the wobbles. A 50 run stand between Broom and Flynn swung the match back towards the Kiwis, with every run the crowd cheered with every half chance a hush went around the stadium but it was Flynn who cracked first as he was caught behind off Wilson for 18, McCullum then completed a poor match on a personal level when he was out LBW to Pickup for 8. With New Zealand requiring 59 runs to win and 4 wickets in hand the match was going to come down to that one player or one play that would make the difference.
First Innings hero Daniel Vettori wasn't going to be that man, Neil Pickup got the scalp of his fellow captain for just 4 and Cricketweb could feel themselves edging ahead. With Broom and Southee at the crease New Zealand knew they still had a chance, those two moved them to within 40 of victory before Wilson struck with his second crucial wicket in removing Southee for 8, in Wilson's next over Daryl Tuffey fell with the score at 219 and Cricketweb were one wicket away from a famous victory on the stroke of tea. Captain Neil Pickup called back Nick Borcich and he delieved the required wicket as he dismissed Neil Broom to complete a great victory, Mork collecting his sixth catch of the game to end it.

Openers monstered him in the second innings, showed good mental strength to come back with a couple of wickets, still the economy rate is a worry and it's definitely something for the selection panel to think about.
