That is one of the better teams in world cricket I'd say. Personal preference would have put the Test retired Afridi in ahead of Kaneria on most tracks for a longer tail but otherwise its great. The two weaknesses are the opening and the tail. Probably the best bowling outfit in the world though.
Excellent team.....and if Afridi joins in.........even better........

I doubt Sami will play (or hope) so I'm not too concerned. If Younis comes back, then the series can be competitive. WI are giving Australia a decent fight, and I think our batting is slightly better than theirs and our bowling much much better. We have a chance, not much though.

He didnt exactly compare him with Marshal..he said Sami had that natural pace and flair like Marshal..and has tremendous potential. Lot of us thought so too when we saw him in New Zealand in 2003 but the problem is he has no brains and although he has the natural ability to bowl fast, he cant use it
haha fair enough..... Knew Imran had said something favourable about Sami... wasn't sure exactly what.

anyway.. good to hear about Younis Khan... will make the Pakistan batting lineup alot more solid and with their bowling attack.. they might cause a surprise or two.

So who should replace Ponting in the first test? interesting insight into the selectors thoughts if he doesnt make it. Personally I think they should pick an opener shift Watson down one, say Rogers. I like me some injuries.

This could be a big blow to Australia, not only weakening their batting but Australia just aren't the same team without Ponting at the helm.
Its not like he's been in blistering form over the past few years (averaged like 40), I think it wont effect the batting too much to be perfectly honest.

Going on form at the moment Rogers probably deserves to be at the top of the que whether they go for an opener or not. I don't think they'll shift Watson and Katich, given they're going well and it'd be silly to disrupt the balance of the team too much for just a game or two. I think we'll probably see Rogers at three.

But I have this bad feeling they'll so something dumb like pick Shaun Marsh lol

Klinger to ton up tomorrow, then pick Klinger woo Klinger, woop woop.

Since Hodge aint around anymore I can't see how they'll pick or what logic they'll use, it should be interesting at the very least.

fair point about the openers.

I think Hodge would've been a shoe in if he hadn't retired last week, given that it's likely only for a game or two and his form this season/record at the MCG..

But yeah Roger's the sensible option, although given how erratic the selection panel has been over the past year or two nothing would be a suprise...hell they could call up Ed Cowan.

What about Hughes? Is he going to be sidelined for about 6 years like Hayden at the start of his test career?

Hasn't really got the shield runs to justify re-inclusion so far this season. Plus I don't really see the use in picking him for one or two games, batting out of position, when he's most likely going to be dropped again as soon as Ponting comes back regardless of how well he plays...That would compound how poorly he was handled in England earlier in the year..

I feel Watson to be a bigger threat to Pak then Ponting..................don't know but just this feeling that Watto is brown inside....the way he bats...........too desi for me....Pure Artisit this guy..

Are you saying he’s susceptible to pace and bounce and will get out after trying to hook the ball for the nth time? :)

Hodge would have probably been picked if it wasn't for retirement. Dunno who they'll go...feel it'll be Phil Hughes, so as long as they put Watson & Katich elsewhere.

I was coming into this thread to post exactly the same thing, reckon the selectors will go for Shaun Marsh. They'll justify it by saying he's done well in his recent shield matches and he's shown he can handle the step up in one day cricket.
