Why is Benn facing a harsher punishment han Haddin or Johnson? By logic it is always the guy who makes physical contact who gets the ban. Wasn't that the logic applied to Gambhir and Watson?
The answer is easy and unavoidable............ Chris Broad. His history when overseeing series between Australia and any other opposition is damning to say the least.

I don't like accusing people of bias, intentional or not, but this seems pretty obvious to me and is the only explanation.

Yeah, cricinfo saw it the way I did....

"For a non-contact sport, the game became physical when Sulieman Benn, Mitchell Johnson and Brad Haddin were involved in an exchange during a tense couple of minutes. Haddin drove back down the pitch and there was a harmless collision between Benn, who was trying to field the ball, and Johnson, who was taking off for a run. However, what should have been a non-incident turned ugly when Haddin, having completed the single, pointed his bat at Benn as if to remonstrate on Johnson's behalf and some terse words were exchanged between Benn and Haddin. Benn was not about to back down and when the batsmen met in the middle of the pitch at the end of the over, he imposed himself on the meeting by pointing at Haddin over the shoulder of Johnson and accidentally brushing the batsman, who pushed Benn away. The match referee will certainly be reviewing the footage of that over."

Yes and I can't explain why he always comes down exceedingly hard on Australia's opposition but that is just the way he operates.

There is a very clear pattern emerging.

Haddin's a smarmy prick and Benn let him get under his skin. That, however, doesn't excuse approaching Haddin after the over had finished. If he was smart, he'd have just let it go having gotten his point across with the last ball of the over or, better yet, gotten Haddin out. That they were all involved in the incident means it's right that they all got a level 1 fine but that Benn was clearly the aggressor at the end there means he should face a slightly higher penalty, I reckon.

That said, Haddin acted like a knob too. I know Benn getting in his way kicked it off but, sorry Haddin, Benn had eyes for the ball only and has no obligation to get out of your way even if you're going for a run. Whining about it is pathetic. He has a fairly average history of pissing and moaning about stuff like that, sad to see it come back.

The issue didn't start with Benn going over to Haddin and behaving like a fool. It also didn't end with just verbals. The pushing away part of Johnson was what should have been punished. Benn wasn't the guy who started it. It would have been more sensible to fine Haddin and Benn and punish Johnson further.

You dislike more Aussie cricketers than a lot of Aussie cricket fans. I like you.

Haa Its funny how AUS/WI always have some hot confrontation in almost every series over the last 15 years:

- Waugh/Amborse Trinidad 95
- Lara/McGrath Barbados 99
- McGrath/Sarwan 03
- Yesteday's incident

Crazy!!!

Only one involving a spinner. But he looks like a fast bowler, so it's okay.
Haa ye. Plus in that same Antigua 03 test i presume you would remember there was another confrontation between Lara/Waugh/Lehmann/Gillespie when Lara started poiting up in Waugh's face, then after that first ball the banged Lee over point for six. Just maddd!!!

Disagree. Johnson getting in between Haddin and Benn appeared to be to stop Benn from approaching him. Johnson certainly inflamed the situation so, yes, should have been fined but from what I saw, Johnson can legitimately claim he was just trying to stop Benn from getting closer to Haddin.

Haha, thanks. Haddin especially bugs me, though.

One incident I remember was in the ING Cup final from a few years ago, Aussie fans might remember Steve Waugh smashing 88 off bugger-all balls and NSW winning it by miles. Haddin hit a ball from Blocker Wilson through the covers and ran one. Blocker was walking back to the crease after his follow-through when Haddin turned blind for his second and smacked into him. Haddin finished the run then walked back at Blocker spitting **** about getting in his way. Was hilarious and sad to see all 5'10" and 80Kg of Haddin walking all tough at 6'5" and 120Kg of Blocker, one of the nicest blokes in cricket.

Haddin apparently has yet to grasp the concept that no-one is obliged to get out of his way when he's running.

I am fairly sure that Haddin is Ian Healy's secret love child, but unfortunately a better batsman and possibly even more smug.

I shudder to think of what it will be like if Haddin follows Healy into the commentary box in years to come 8-)

Haddin was getting criticised everywhere on the radio here in Melbourne today.

So I'd say its not bias, maybe waving your bat at a player isn't actually acceptable?

Healy and Haynes 91
Healy and Lara 93

What's the commom denominator in all these incidents? That's right, hot-headed West Indians involved in every one.

Should be banned from international cricket until they sort their collective selves out.

Haa well as a black man i see why the Windies cats be reacting like that at times, being "hot-headed" is very common trait.

What's been going on with Benn? I heard them saying that the Aussies weren't happy because they thought the sledging from him in the second test was too 'personal', or something like that. He seemed to be acting like a right idiot in that match, but I don't remember him being like that against England.
