That news was as shocking to me as when I opened the prank CW Best Ever # 8 thread. I seriously thought this was a joke as well. Sami is returning? WTF?!? I think SJS had done an analysis a little while ago that proved (to me anyway) that statistically he's the worst test bowler of all time. And we're recalling him??? Hell, I'd even take a fat, out of practice, and disruptive Shoaib Akhtar over him! This series is officially going to be a disaster.

He won't play unless one of Asif, Gul and Aamer get injured. Start praying for their fitness now IMO.

Also, I expect Pakistan to get slaughtered by the bounce. Looked an absolute mess at Napier, I dread to think how they'll deal with the MCG.

With Pakistan's general lack of fitness, the possiblity of that is very high IMO. I would expect Sami to suit up for at least one of the matches. I suppose the only thing that may deflect from his sure to be horrible figures are the the expected Pakistani batting collapses.

Rauf's in the squad too and presumably still ahead of Sami in the pecking order.

I hate the idea of seeing Sami again....Talha, Wahab deserve to be chosen ahead of him in any form of the game....with But as PCB head and Moyo as Captain and Inti has coach, Pak cricket have gone backwords in last few months.

On the other hand Sami can not be worst than Gul in tests, who has been spraying crap all over for almost a year now.

Sami's recall comes as a disappointment and tells us yet again that selection process is not on merit but on favoritism in Pakistan. There are batsmen and bowlers in domestic circuit who are much better players then the ones we have got in current squad. Unfortunately they will never be seen at the highest level.

Mohammad Talha deserved a spot in the international side over Sami. He performed much better at the domestic level and better then Sami.

This Pak team is a walk in the park for Aussies.

IF Sami does not play, then I still think Pakistan can be competitive, especially if the YK rumours are true. Plus I hear they have quite a classy reserve keeper, Sarfraz or something? If so then why not play Kamran as a batsman?

A side of:

Farhart
Butt/Alam
Younis/Iqbal
MoYo
Umar
Kamran
Sarfraz
Aamer
Gul
Asif
Kaneria

Not a bad side. If Pakistan are really lucky the only weak point is the openers.

Really? Worse than Ian Salisbury?

I remember in a "worst cricketers" thread he got off the hook due to his relative decency at ODIs. There can't have been anyone else as proficient at bowling so badly he even makes neutrals slightly angry.

I'll try to look for it, but if I recall he was clearly the worst bowler according to the stats that SJS analyzed.

Here's the analysis from SJS that I was referring to:

Mohammad Sami is a remarkable cricketer. At such a young age he has some of the most astounding achievements in the history of the game. Here are a few.

1. He has conceded 126 runs per test match played. :
No fast bowler (in the side as a bowler) in the entire 129 year history of the game has given as many and survived to play even 20 tests in his entire career. Our Sami has already played 28 and there should be more to come, Inshallah !!
2. He is also joint second fastest in the race to conced 3000 test runs amongst all fast and medium fast bowlers in the world for the last 129 years !! :

- Our Sami achieved this feat in a fantastic run of 25 test matches. Bedser may have done it in one test fewer but look at the sneaky way he achieved that – by bowling as many as 1200 or so overs. Our Sami did us proud by doing it in just 850 overs !!

- And look at how profligate Bedser was. He had to get 93 wickets in his 24 tests to get tp this coveted target. Our Sami did it by bothering the umpires only 65 times.

- Even the other five pretenders, Hadlee, Roberts, Devon Malcolm, Jeff Thomson and Danny Morrison who matched Sami’s feat got 502 wickets between them and at a combined average of 30.4. Our Sami stands proudly at 47.2 for his economical tally of 65 wickets !!

3. Of the hundred odd bowlers we compared. Sami was head and shoulders above everyone else in his “strike rate’ at the end of the 25 test matches.

His strike rate (wickets per test match) stood at an astounding 2.60 wickets per test match !!

It is clear that on the overall criteria of average, strike rate, race to reach runs targets our Sami is head and shoulders above any fast bowler in the history of the game. We are confident that given the kind of support such a bowler deserves, he will set up records that future generations of fast bowlers will look back at in bewilderment.

The only player in the entire history of the game who comes close to challenging our Sami is that elephant-eared God from Mumbai. Their figures make interesting comparisons.

BOWLER…TESTS…..OVER..RUNS…..WKTS….AVG…..STR RATE…W/T…5-for

Sami…………28……….997…3531………65……48.4……….81.95…….2.28…….2
Agarkar……....26………809….2745………58…….47.3………83.74….....2.23……1

Very tough fight indeed. Imagine if India were to join hands and both these amazing bowlers played on the same side. That would be a treat!!

This is simply ridiculous. I would pick a half fit Shoaib Akhtar over him anyday..
He is an embarrassment to Pakistan cricket!

On there day when the brains are functioning and their is not over reliance on Allah, this team can be very competitive. But when we collapse we collapse.

Very likely that Younis is not playing...so Iqbal will play. Also possible Amir will be rested as he looked quite tired.......I would not mind seeing Sarfraz though...he seems to be a good keeper...and can bat too. But batting resources are seriously limited and Oz bowling is gonna be hard to face.....

this is insane I can tolerate Malik, Misbah, Farhat, Butt or even Faisal but Sami??? sorry I am not watching this rubbish.

Wahab Riaz, Mohd Talha, Sohail Khan shoulkd retire and find an alternate profession.
3-0 here we come.

your religon bashing is getting tiresome.

If a non religous guy had said that they were lucky to be saved by the rain gods no body would have even raised an eyebrow but since Yousuf has an outwardly religous personality this makes it easier for others to bash him on his Allah saved us comment.

If Mo Yo was someone who left every thing on fate then he would still be cleaning floors somewhere in Lahore like his father rather then being one of the best modern day batsman.
