**Official** Pakistan in New Zealand (3 tests)

With the Akmals and a bunch of Pakistan tailenders who like to have a swing this match could really go anywhere from now. Though on this pitch you'd have to back the batting side.

Pakistan still need to bat out 60 overs before I'd count us truly out. If we have 60 overs to chase 210-240 I think we'd go for it.
Nah too many players in the side trying to keep their spot. McIntosh, Guptill and Flynn wont want to throw their wickets away and Watlings in his first test.

We need them out for a lead of under 200 at most.

Guptill, Taylor, McCullum and to a lesser extent Flynn are stroke makers.

i dont see them trying to play too many strokes against kaneria. he got really good turn in day 3. imagine day 5 with more footmarks. chasing 210-240 in a test match with 60 overs is suicide.

But i'm often wrong hah

Yeah but if Taylor and Vettori get out we're done, Pakistan could well romp to victory.

McIntosh will need time to get in, he'll start slowly. Watling won't want to get out cheap in his first test and Guptill will be thinking about his place a lot too. Flynn will go into his shell with the axe hanging, plus we have very rarely have we seen him go on the attack at test level.

I'd be in favour of them going for a chase like that (though 4 an over is pretty optimistic) until Guptill and Taylor are out - at that point should shut up shop and try to hold on for the draw.

On this pitch I'd back us to be able to bat the draw with 3/4 wickets down. Obviously we'd stop attacking if we lost early wickets and it was a bridge too far.
Want to see us WANT to win this.

I agree but a lot of batsmen will be thinking about their place and are too slow at scoring to chase anything big in 50 overs

just tell the kiwi batsmen its an ODI (if the eventual score requires a high run rate) we seem to be able to win those. plus guptill might actually start being good

Haha, can't be much Tuffey love for Martin right now, first he leaves Tuffey stranded on 80 n/o, then he see a chance (which looked catchable) fall just short of him only to see his next ball disappear into the crowd for 6.
