FFS, once again it will be down to Vettori to do the work of the proper batsmen on a flat wicket. It would be pretty easy for me to justify supporting Australia (I have lived here for nearly 11 years), but I don't, so I guess I take the good with the bad.

Yeah it times like this I wonder why I support them like I do. Let's be honest here, it's not going to get any better for a long, long time. We don't have any other batsmen in domestic cricket.

McCullum very lucky to get away with that.

And Flynn really did spectacularly shoot himself in the foot with his little Gilchrist moment.
I'm becoming of the opinion a batsman should not walk. **** it, if the umpire doesn't give you out, then there is the review system, and if that says nout out, well fine by me.

I'm more worried about the fast bowlers. O'Brien is retiring, and Southee can take his spot. Who know's with Bond? He may give up Tests now, or after the Aussies come, and Martin is no spring chicken having just turned 35. Tuffey is 31 as well, so we can get a few more years out of him. Then what else? Start recruiting more South Africans? Hey, if it is good enough for England.

Oh yes, and great to watch another abject capitulation.

McIntosh & Taylor - silly shots.
Flynn - just crap
Guptill - got a good 'un.

Either way, no surprise that the top order has failed again.

Damn, came home from work to this score. Ah well, not like it was unexpected.

I almost fell over at this post. Not even Kane Williamson or some other ND under 23 player? :p

I do agree to an extent though. Most of the available quality is almost unpickable because they're so inexperienced.

This.

Not sure how I feel about McIntosh. Its good he got some runs because we desperately need them but its Napier, he has Bangladesh next who he'll probably ton up against (its a FC cricket style team) and then we have a problem; Australia. Tbh I'm pessimistic about him vs them.

Loving the class shown a few pages back by writing Watling off already. Its his first game, he's entitled to be nervous and that translated into his poking around I suspect. If there's one thing Watling is its compact.

This score is why I was disappointed we didn't get them out for 120.

Hope Vettori scores big. McCullum if he can reign himself in (haha) might score big.

Please no. Don't want a team FULL of mercenaries. Thats for England to do. :p

He got a googly that he didn't pick.It was the same situation as Guptil's dismissal. Either they both are weak for not being able to pick it - or they both got a good one.

Not Terrible
McIntosh has begun to solidfy himself in my eyes as that guy we should just keep at the top until we find someone better. He represents all the domestic journeymen openers in the country and goes quite well after spending some time at the crease.

The difference I think HDS might be getting at is Flynn has always been poor to average in every format, and the same domestically bar one season.

Its not just the manner of Flynn's dismissal, but his whole innings was atrocious from start to finish. Could have been out a number of times. Looked like a tailender; and his lack of knowledge of how to play a leg-spinner is even less forgivable than Guptill's.

Mcintosh is still rank in my eyes. I was perversely rooting for that lbw decision to be upheld yesterday.

That said without his 73 we would be up the creek.

No, no, no Ian Smith. That was not a good sweep shot. The risk vs. rewards of that shot was simply not good enough. The max he was gonna get there was one run. No punter in their right mind would bet on that.

In ways he is both better and worse than other journeyman openers.

Better because once he is in he scores 2136646677*

Worse because his history, even domestically, shows that he's almost a walking wicket for the first hour of his innings.

He's going to be an occassional flat track bully.

I'm undecided on him now, which is why I was furious he was picked for this match. Suspected he'd score a 50 without it being a 23657788*
