With all his 150+ pace, what effect did Roach have in the last innings in terms of wickets?
Were you even watching the game?

Just because a bowler doesn't take wickets doesn't mean they are bowling badly.

Roach's last spell was one of the best spells of fast bowling you are likely to see, despite the lack of wickets. Made the batsmen look foolish.

This. But I can't say this because I'm biased towards guys that bowl 150+ apparently 8-)

Yeh. Brett Lee's fantastic spell on the same ground against England in 2006, for example. Think he only got Flintoff but boy did he put them on the back foot for the other bowlers. Was a top spell. Roach's was just as good.

Went to the final 2 hours after work. There was a quite a strong breeze blowing in the direction of St Peter's Cathedral. Roach looked a man down on luck, his reactions after a few play and misses showed a fair bit of dissapointment. Its always hard to pick up on just how close chances were whilst at the game but Clarke appeared to lose it there for a couple deliveries he didn't even need to play at.

The breeze was so strong Benn's deliveries were almost going backwards by the time they reached the batsman. I doubt Barath will bowl again :)

Reckon it's about time that Clarke and Hussey swap their batting positions.
Reckon it's about time Hussey lost his place tbh. Ridiculous that Stuart Clark's gotten the axe yet Hussey's still playing.

Don't agree. Rare for a game of cricket to have all four modes of results still open leading into the last session on day 5. Was all the little things that made this Test match so interesting. The Watson chase for 100, some of the spells from Roach, Bravo's little mid-innings fightback with the ball, Gayle carrying his bat. Game had many little highlights.
Don't forget how well Dougeh bowled - was better than Johnson imo this match despite not being bowled enough in both innings - reversed it a bit too. Should have gone to England.

Dougeh.

It is frustrating having Hussey in the team in his current form, albeit he's improved a bit, while we have a middle order batsman opening and openers like Hughes, Jaques and Rogers out of the team. Can't see them axing him ahead of Perth, but could give him the word that a change will be made soon so he can decide if he wants to opt out in his home test.

I don't think Clarke should move up to four - he looks so settled at five. Don't see the imperative to bat him higher.

Hughes/Jaques to open, Watto to four, imo.

Reckon Huss would want to ton up at Perth though if he wants to gaurantee his position for a while longer. Although I suspect he'll be given until the end of the summer no matter what.

The problem with both Hughes and Jaques is that neither of them have done much in state cricket this year.

Phil Hughes 181 runs @ 36.20 HS 79.
Phil Jaques 191 runs @ 47.75 HS 66.

Both you would think would need to make a big score first before getting a look in like for instance this guy:

Chris Rogers 297 runs @ 74.25 HS 149

So yeah, a pretty big few days of state cricket coming up.

It is such a pity this pitch is still a road. I agree with Taylor that Johnson should have come ahead and tried to smash around a bit. About 10 overs back Australia were still in with a chance of winning this. This sort of defensive negative cricket is not what one expects from the founders of modern aggressive test cricket.
You might have missed this, but not long ago a few decent players retired. It's funny, because when the old team used to go for it regardless of the situation and lose they were deemed 'too aggressive' in some quarters.

Real aggression is only useful if it's one of your strengths. I think if this team had gone out today and tried to flay it everywhere, losing the game in the process, most people who are fans would've shook their heads.

I think in the process they are becoming a bit like old India who once they are 1-0 up play ultra defensive cricket on flat pitches and ensure series wins. I don't want Australian team to do that.
Assuming they could've smashed Roach and Benn to all corners if they tried of course. Benn seemed to be bowling ok for mine, and Roach was very good.

And good effort by the Windies in this match too, much improved on Brisbane. Hopefully Perth will be an interesting match too.

I don't agree with this, I know I would much rather see them lose in the process of trying to win at all costs, than just block for 55 overs. I think u play to win

Regardless of how many runs Rogers scores, I very much doubt he's on the selectors radar given they've seemingly done their best to select every possible non-opening batsmen to fill the vacant opening spots when they've come up over the past 2 or so years. In saying that, they'll probs make me look a jackass now and pick Rogers if it comes to having to drop Huss :p

Key difference is that Clark after the Oval test & matches afterwards its clear he has lost a yard of pace that made him so good between SA 05 to WI 08. So he had to be dropped.

Hussey earned to right to at least start this series based on his Oval hundred & ODI batting. But yes Huss is in trouble atm, as aformentioned i reckon he will be given until the end of the summer to prove himself at least tbf.

Agree with this. The team just aint what it was, we've secured the trophy with this, which is great, Just have to lower our expectations a bit. The Windies bowled well, and a couple of them batted well enough to draw it out, just the way it is, I'm guessing it will be different in Perth however.
