Where does Vettori rank all-time as an all-rounder?

There is no way that Vettori is the MAIN batsman for NZ.

Ross Taylor is for sure, with a fit Jesse Ryder second.

For the life of me I can't figure out how he gets wickets. It almost looks as though he's trying desperately not to turn it. Seems like he's just gonna sneak under the radar his whole career and keep on trapping idiot right handers lbw playing for turn, and idiot left handers caught behind playing for turn.

All power to the man though, he is becoming more and more successful as time goes on and I have to admit my stance on him has softened as a result. Still don't really like him as a test bowler.

Another quality all-round performance by Vettori in NZ's first test win

When are you guys going to face facts :laugh::laugh:

One thing about Vettori that people haven't taken into account here is the amount of chicks AND guys that absolutely adore him.

All round performer indeed.

I was talking about cricket in labs last year, and one of the female postgrads came over and interrupted us specifically to half-rant half-drool about Vettori. He's a somewhat unusual *** symbol but girls ****ing love him.

Yep.

My eye sight is pretty good, but I'm a tiny bit short sighted, and hate the idea of contact lenses. So where my glasses most of the time.

He makes glasses AND spin bowling ***y

Little bit unfair not to count the wins against Bangladesh in Bangladesh last year, considering we were under pressure.

Matches against Bangladesh in Bangladesh since about 2007 should be counted IMO.

If they'd won a single match in the history of test cricket, I'd agree with you.

In any case, figures without Bangladesh are a much better indicator of a player's ability than figures with IMO.

As rightly aforementioned by TEC. Vettori should be ranked amongst other great spin bowling all-rounders instead of the many great pace bowling all-rounders. So after a few days thought, my list:

- Faulkner
- Mankad
- Benaud
- Rhodes
- Vettori

Faulkner was the best batsman of the lot, slightly ahead of Mankad. While Benaud the best spinner.

I'm Australian and Benaud is no hope so it's Dan then a group of people who fought in the first world war

Haha I think the significance of that fact doesn't really hit home sometimes. People have a lot of sympathy for the team and its fans, a lot of love for them as an underdog and a lot of hope that they'll one day be a competitive test side- because cricket doesn't really have enough sides that can beat each other. I spoke to a bunch of their supporters during the World T20, and they were genuinely the nicest fans you could ever imagine. Really friendly, great sense of fun and they'd follow their side to the end of the world.

But I still have to say that as far as test cricket goes, there are no positives. Barring Zimbabwe and the third-choice West Indies side, their record reads: Played 55, Lost 52, Drawn 3. Of those draws, only one- against the West Indies- was not heavily rain-affected.

I can't think of a sporting precedent. Is there ANY other team in any other major sport that has gone on such a prolonged losing streak? Even San Marino's soccer team beat Liechtenstein in 2004. Relative to the level at which they (try to) compete, does this make Bangladesh the worst international sporting team of all time? Surely, in any other sport, the administrators would show mercy to the team and relegate them to a less humiliating level. I'm happy to look to give credit to the underdogs, but there has to be a limit. How bad does a team have to be before people will say, "no, there are no positives, these guys are just awful." Isn't losing every single match you EVER play enough?

And look, it's not that I want Bangladesh to be horrendously bad. They just are. If Ireland lost their first 52 games in test cricket and people were saying, "ah, but they got themselves into a good position in that one match at home New Zealand before completely throwing it away and losing by three wickets", I'd be utterly humiliated.

BANG almost beat AUS & i personally rate Gilly's hundred & MacGill's 8 wicket haul as two their best test performances.
