It's not really a weakness, though. If you bowl in that area and get big seam movement away, you're going to trouble just about any batsman in the game, especially at pace. That's the good. However, it's a really tough thing to do consistently unless your surname is McGrath. That's the bad. If you're relying on beating batsmen with big movement all the time, you're going to have more bad than good days, blokes like Ponting are going to monster you and you're going to wish you kept your mouth shut.

That said, if Roach is able to back up what he has said with wickets, good on him. He certainly does look very good.

Reckon that it probably wasn't out to be honest. Needed to see the edge of the bat at some stage on the hot spot camera to see that it was completely blank, as it was facing away from the camera. Probably not enough evidence to overturn it, but expecting the complaints to start.

Yeah, perfect example there of why the referral system is stupid. Can't tell conclusively if it's out or not on those sorts of close catches. It probably wasn't out, but predictably all the replay shows is that he hit his pad and he may or may not have hit the ball, so the umpire's decision is always going to stand, regardless of whether or not it is correct, and we waste five minutes watching replays of it.

Just let the umpire make the decision that's going to stand anyway, and save the replays for things where it can actually be conclusive.

I dont buy this nor what Nicholas & Chappel are on about "enough evidence to overturn the on-field umpires decision".

Yes he probably heard a sound, but it was clear he didn't touch the ball from the replays - thats seems very clear. Nothing wrong with the technology its the people using it - Johnson should be still batting.

That is the rules aussie, it has to be conclusive enough for the umpires to change their mind. Fact.

I can't really imagine any way a caught behind off a spinner would be overturned on the referral, unless he clearly missed it by a long distance or something. You just can't ever be 100% sure on a replay that he didn't hit it, if the bat is close to the ball. It was undoubtedly the right decision by the third umpire, he just has nothing to work with.
