From the Roach article;

haha, get the feeling Ponting will have heard that with great interest. If history is any guide, I'd say he's likely to go out of his way to put the hurt on Roach from now on. Going to be interesting watching them but you just never give a bloke like Ponting extra motivation.

Tell ya what, if being unable to play big seamers outside off-stump counts as a 'weakness'.....
Haa indeed, youth man talking fat. Punter will smoke him..

I agree that it's not wise to talk yourself up against a great batsmen but Roach really did own Ponting yesterday in the same way that JT has routinely owned him in every form of cricket. He was hit on the pad infront of the stumps twice in this innings lets not forget. It is a weakness that really good bowlers can target IMHO, rather like Lara's jump accross the crease early in his innings towards the end of his career that caused the great man to be a feast or famine type of batsman.

Who is JT?

Generally, making something personal counts in favour of the bowler. KP and Lara are two notable exceptions, but I'm not sure Ponting is. Seems to get unsettled sometimes.

I love Roach's attitude.

It's not really a weakness, though. If you bowl in that area and get big seam movement away, you're going to trouble just about any batsman in the game, especially at pace. That's the good. However, it's a really tough thing to do consistently unless your surname is McGrath. That's the bad. If you're relying on beating batsmen with big movement all the time, you're going to have more bad than good days, blokes like Ponting are going to monster you and you're going to wish you kept your mouth shut.

That said, if Roach is able to back up what he has said with wickets, good on him. He certainly does look very good.

WI would've been a lot more competitive with Edwards a fully fit Taylor and Sarwan
Let me tell you guys something. this is the first time WI have got a 3rd fast bowler of real quality and finally an opening batsman in Adrian Barath of any real quality and more importantly they are really young 21 and 19. I think Instead of Benn they should get Nikita Miller but then Benn got Hussey and wasn't too expensive. Rampaul is just not test quality material. Plus I mean they could only improve from here. Can't be any worse than Darren powell and god knows the numerous partners Gayle has had. Plus we do still have some promising batsmen like Xavier Marshall, Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard coming through. Also I'm really looking forward to Pollard is a genuine all rounder in this test team. My team for the foreseeable future would be:

1.Gayle
2.Barath
3.Sarwan
4.Chanders
5.Nash/Pollard
6.Bravo
7.Ramdin
8.Benn/Miller
9.Taylor
10.Roach
11.Edwards

Now thats not a bad team at all. Bet that team could beat Pakistan, England, New Zealand and I would love it more than anything if they could beat India.
Let's remember that both Barath and Rampaul are making their debuts, and there's still time for them to fall by the wayside, like Chattergoon and Baker, who both came into the side with great expectations....

They've still got to prove themselves. that said, my fingers are crossed for them.

Jerome Taylor....

I'm really keen on seeing a bowling attack of Taylor-Edwards-Roach-Bravo and a spinner in the spring against the Saffers.
Or forget the spinner and go with Taylor, Castro, Roach and Tonge, who looks pretty handy and offers something different. If your spinner is Benn, then forget about having one.

Taylor is apparently not on the field today, huge blow for the Windies in regard to the rest of the series as he is a superb bowler to rights handers and usually does well against Ponting.

Gayle is about as effective as Benn so no point in playing the spinner with a fullstrength West Indian attack. Edwards, Taylor, Roach, Bravo and possibly Tonge?

Apparently, Taylor has a hip injury that means he won't bowl again for the rest of this innings, and maybe the match....

This hill has now become a mountain.
Personally, I think there are a lot more spinners in the Caribbean better than Benn (Miller, Wallace, Brown, Jaggernauth, Mohammed),. but sadly the selectors don't seem to see it that way.

Does Roach struggle with his line to lefties a bit? Seems to find it hard to attack the stumps.

Equally little point in playing five quicks though, I reckon. I've always thought Ryan Hinds would be perfect - scores millions of runs every season in First Class cricket and provides a spin about as good as Gayle's while turning it in the other direction - but he just couldn't convert his domestic performances to Test level to any degree at all so the boat has well and truly sailed on that one.

Well there's about 101 spinners tearing up the domestic circuit and they keep picking Sulieman Benn. The theory is that none of them are really good enough as it stands so they pick one and keep playing him until he's good enough. It's debatable whether that's the right way to go about things, and it's debatable whether they've picked the right spinner to stick with, but in any case I don't see the point in replacing him with a fourth seamer.

You'd think Benn would be a fairly decent one day bowler though, the Windies never seem to select him for that though.

"He wants to get those big scores a little closer together now"

A century every fourth innings not good enough any more Tony?

North's so under-appreciated. Three centuries and a score of 96 in his first 7 matches and some people are still saying he shouldn't be in the team.

His hundred on debut was something seriously special.
