Advice/Accomodation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Should probably have put this in the World cup thread but I imagine the event will have its own forum before long..

Nothing concrete is planned yet, I don't even know if I'm going to be taking a trip to England during it, but me and a friend are planning to let our house out to anyone interested in being here during the world cup, and I'd obviously like to extend the offer to people on here, being I think the only poster in this subforum who lives here, am keen to help anyone who is thinking of making the trip..

We can offer a fully furnished flat with maid/electricity/DSTV, everthing included for R5000 for the month, and if I'm about can definitely help with transport. We stay in Summerstrand which is about 5km from the stadium in Port Elizabeth, 3km from the airport, walking distance of the casino and restaurants, and 70km from Jeffreys Bay which is regarded as one of the best surf spots in the world and will be hosting the Billabong Pro tournament during the WC..

So yeah, any advice/quries, this thread :)

Will be going in for tickets once the final draw has been completed, so depending how things work out I could be very interested in this.

Not sure what the process is, but in SA the rumour is that you can only buy tickets on a "random lucky dip" basis.. So your games get chosen at random.. To avoid empty stadiums for the dead draws.. Not sure if this is at all true, but if so it sounds shockingly bad

Ha ha really? I'll have to look into that, I'd just assumed it would be the same as for Germany in '06. Dire if true, how on earth is anyone supposed to follow their own team if they're not allowed to apply for tickets to see them? Just not workable IMO.

Same scheme has been in place for several tournaments iirc. Knew loads of people who got tickets this way for the last World Cup in Germany. Though obviously there must be some way of actually applying to see a certain team.

Hingeh, speaking from experience with the Olympics in Sydney, don't leave town when it's on.

The Olympics was the biggest party ever in Sydney, I'd assume an event as big as the WC in SA would be the same.

A lot of people decided to take holidays and head OS whent he Games were on here, and they missed out on plenty (like an arvo spent drinking in a pub at Darling Harbour with a Norgwegian lady gymnast).

Must be able to do it both ways - last time around I just applied for specific matches, didn't realise there was also a lucky dip.

Fox Sports travel are advertising for tour spots for next years WC, and obviously you will see all of Australia's matches, so I assume that is how it will work if you want to see your own team play. In saying that though, your tour guides is Robbie Slater and Andy Harper. That is more akin to suicide IMO. So I guess I would rather go DIY. And for me, I would have a decent chance of seeing New Zealand play.

Would rather drink acid than spend 15 minutes with Andy Harper.

Its more to do with the availability of work in the UK during it than my desire to leave.. But yeah it will be a party of note if I stay, we don't have a huge amount of bars in town, so they will always be overflowing

Langeveldt, what will be the easiest way to travel when the World Cup is on?

For instance Durban to Rustenburg, I see it's about 700km, is car hire a decent option?
