The CW 50 - CricketWeb's view of the top 50 cricketers of all time

Cricketer Of The Year
it'll just be another list, no more and no less credible than one produced by somebody, or a group of somebodies at cricinfo, 606, caribcricket, what-have-you. the attempt at making it seem more respectable by lacing it with a veneer of purportedly informed objectivity reeks of self-masturbationary back slapping that kinda make the participants seem like they're carrying a chip on their shoulders and revelling in their own brilliance at the same time.
Lots of long words but you've made masturbationary up FTR

Missed that. Can just imagine it being penned by Dickens. "He was a shrewd, masturbationary fellow..."

Just sent my top 25.

I don't think I have too many surprises, looking forward to seeing where the Cricketer I ranked 21st is placed, because I think he might just miss out on most peoples top 25's.

TBH I just rooted through Wisden, found anyone that might be a candidate and then whittled them down. I think I had 50 or so names to begin with.

Well he may or may not make the final 50, but you'll be pleased to know that even at this early stage you're not the only person to have voted for him. :)

My list might be a bit of a wildcard list, I'm going to favour massively cricketers that I've had the pleasure of watching on television.

How many are we going for? 20 or 25?

We're going for 25. Understandable if you're more comfortable rating players that way, but do remember that it's an all-time list so please don't just vote exclusively for players you've seen - by doing that you're essentially saying that everyone you've seen is better than everyone you haven't, which skews the voting. :)

See, the way I read the thread title, it's each person's top 25 of all time.

There's 1 or 2 players who will be in my list who will probably not feature in anyone else's list (1 almost certainly will not), but they're hugely important to me, as without them I might not ever have had anything more than a passing interest in the game.

That's a fair call Btw...Consideration should be given NOT just to stats but the players contribution to the game..ie one player I had to leave off my list was Alfred Mynn who's contribution to the game was massive in his own time but could not put him in my 25 as the game spans 150 odd years:)
