Sensational effort from Southee, its that sort of performance that highlights just how promising he is and how much potential he has to offer the national side. Also nice to see Broom back in domestic cricket and piling on the runs against Central Districts.

Anyhow anyone know why Wagner isn't playing? Has he been dropped, or is he injured.
He has a back strain

I'm not pleased with Harris taking the spot of someone who actually has a future, why wasn't Stewart playing? He can impart his experience through other ways.

And although it's okay for this Napier pitch, I wish Otago would stop insisting on a batting light team and give Rutherford or Darren Broom matches.
At least they're cashing in today, especially Broom

8-27?! Good lord. And from 25 overs. Sensational stuff.

I really hope he backs it up with another good effort in the second innings - something he's struggled to do at Test level so far.

Agreed. How old is the guy now? Are they really that desperate to win that they resort to playing a guy who should have retired years ago. Surely potential over former talent should come into the mix. I like the guy but this is a bit of a joke unless there are a number of injuries.

Perhaps Otage are playing fewer batsmen to accommodate more bowlers seeing as they've clearly recognised it as a road.

I noticed that Canterbruy had a NZ under 19 prospect as their 12th man last game, I wonder why he didn't play this game (yes he's a batsmen). I guess like Blakey said they're desperate for that win. He did bat pretty well though.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I have his horrible feeling Elliott will be replaced by Broom after this performance and the next Test will be on a minefield...

Harris brings up his century before getting lbw to Bates. Canterbury cruising at 415/7. Bates the best of the bowlers with 3/67

Neil Broom has a chance at a double hundred here. 186* as Otago sit on 409/4. Ewen Thompson managed to get some Otago wickets early, Haig for 153 and Todd for a duck as he is practically the lone ranger in the attack on 3/89.

ND are getting raped by Any McKay with support from his other bowlers. The entire ND top five dismissed with no one passing 20. McKay has 3/16.

Tugaga looks like a real good prospect, not sure why he didn't open as he looked rather impressive.

I think the squad of 13 they selected was for the first two test matches so unless Elliott's injured I can't see that happening.

I'm unsure as to Harris' form or if hes even been playing at club level but to return as a 40 year old and make a century in his first innings back deserves some recognition.

Broom missed out on his double century in the end, was hoping he'd pass 200 for the first time in his career.

As for the Wellington vs ND match, I don't think Tim Southee's overly impressed at his batsmen's efforts in losing their first five wickets for 51 - decent recovery from McGlashan and Yovich to get them to lunch with no further loss.

Jeets replaces Burns for Wellington, thats odd. Must've been a family issue or something?
"If Jeetan Patel is released by the Blackcaps selectors prior to the first Test against Pakistan, also starting on Tuesday. He will travel immediately to Hamilton to join the Wellington team. If this occurs, New Zealand Cricket playing conditions allow for a full playing substitute until Patel’s arrival."

Wellington Cricket- Joe Austin-Smellie to make Firebirds debut against Northern

Thanks for that, was wondering why Tuffey was the 12th man and not Jeets. This explains it.

Love Smellie-Austin's name.

Ingram bowled in the first over. CD don't seem to have a top order or bowling attack this season.

CD have the best batting in the country and arguably the best top order (though a lot of regions have great opening combinations).

Would say Ingram, How and Patton are better than

Bell, Brodie, Parlane
Watling, Wislon, Parlane
Cumming, Morgan, Haig
Nicol, Papps, Astle

Only maybe Jones, Bopara and Kitchen are looking better.

Howsie

Patton's yet to prove himself tbf, he had a good season last year but one season doesn't make him better then average (which a 30 year old with one season of FC must be). How and Ingram are average to poor and Worker has yet to do anything at this level
