Bennett was bloody quick last time I saw him, but haven't seen him in ages and he's hardly played so I have no idea how quick he is now.

Would be interesting to see what kind of speeds Boult is bowling, wouldn't be surprised if he was up around 140km/h.
Well he was bowling around 135 at school so you would think he'd be around 140 now, depends on how well is back is though.

Boult - from the article - seems to think he has come back stronger and a bit quicker than pre-injury. As well as that, his stress fracture was not due to technique which he was happy about - well taking positive from a negative situation.

Why the hell is Bennett shying away from being a bowler? Does he realise the middle order will be stocked full of batting all-rounders? Does he have a history of injury with bowling or somthing?

NZC should pay players incentives, if they show talent, to continue as a bowler rather than chuck it in to be a batting all-rounder.

Can't see Sherlock making it as an international or domestic cricketer - not with the amount of injuries he has had.

Re: Bond - he has certainly lost a lot of his pace. Was mid-130's most of the time against Pakistan.

Really banking on Southee picking up a little more pace - taking him consistenly around 140 while having amazing shape and direction on the ball i.e. McGrath. All things going well, Boult entered the team then they could form a pretty decent opening pair in years to come. Throw in - is it Beard - as the spinner, then Williamson as a part timer and Wagner (if he can keep his game going) then there is hope for a relatively decent bowling combination.

How do people think Nethula will go? Reckon they're chucking him in against Pakistan because he is a leggie and they're a bit excited about it?

You mean Anderson right? Bennett isn't renowned for batting..

Agree on Sherlock. Unless he can turn the injuries around he's going to really struggle.

Nethula was the top wicket taker last year in First Class. I guess the selectors may be leaning towards the line of thought that N McCullum and Patel will never be good enough for tests.

Yes must be Anderson.

Excitement factor = Nethula = wow we may have a decent wrist spinner.

Top wicket taker was a spinner and on NZ pitches? Talentless clearly.

Plus he played on a road for most of the season, good signs. From what I've heard though Nethula does bowl quite a few four balls during a spell of bowling, would hope that New Zealand give him as much time as possible to improve on that and get his general accuracy up.

Four balls for wickets aren't too much of an issue tbh, just keep him away from ODIs.

Bond, Vettori, Martin, O'Brien, Tuffey, Arnel and co. are all economical enough to cover for it. It's a bit like Franklin pre-injury: very hittable at times but got lots of wickets. Fair trade.

Dunno, he's not an overly big guy, though I think an article that someone industrious posted said he'd bulked up.
Why do you need to be an overly big guy to be quick? Most of the modern day quicks arent very big at all - Lee, Steyn, Bond, Sami, Akhtar, Edwards, Malinga etc. Don't need to be big to have a quick arm action.

Yea but none of those guys are 70 kg's, which Boult would not have been far of.

Doubt it. He's what, around 6'1", 6'2"? He'd have to be anorexic to be 70kg's.

And regardless of that, he was still hitting 135km/h+ as a schoolkid and he reckons he's got quicker.

The NZ-Pakistan game has just started, Cumming gone early for two.

Edit: Must ask why Brent Arnel isn't playing either.

So Cumming's chances of forcing his way into the team have just taken a huge nosedive then . Haven't seen Abdur Rauf bowl before either. Flynn and McIntosh should be used to batting together - Flynn to score 25 and then out. McIntosh 50 today IMO.

Also I'm pretty sure the match is 12-a-side, so Arnel will be playing but not on the batting card.

Ah yes, I forgot all about that :)

Kiss of death, but I like the fact the Flynn is on 22 from 36 balls without a single boundary - must be doing something right.
