Glad we won. When Ryder plays we have 4 players who are a threat with the bat which is good. I am dissapointed for Styris that he got run out two games in a row. I hope they give him another chance.

I thought Mills' reaction to the caught behind not being given was regrettable. Players aren't going to walk so why get mad at them when the umpire doesn't give it.

Read today that Vettori might going under the knife at the end of this season. But they are hoping he can hobble through the summer with his bad shoulder (in his bowling arm).

Finally I don't think Redmond did enough to secure a spot in the team. Good performance though.

Must say fellas, can't remember a victory that has left such a sour taste in my mouth, suppose its because had we lost (which was basically a 50/50 possibility starting the last over), it would've been one of our worst losses of all time, not by the margin obviously, but due to the last wicket stand.

Still, once we get our injured players back, reckon we have a pretty decent side.

and ...

Bowling 37 wickets, Average 34 & an incredible economy rate of just 4.03


This record, albeit based on the last 2 & 3/4 years is absolutely world-class no matter which way you look at it....an allrounder that averages mid 30s, scores at close to 100 & bowls his 10 overs for 40...


Also, one more thing, to the NZ selectors....Please please please, no more Broom !!!

I don't think we bowled that badly. As heroically as Aamer and Ajmal batted, they had more than their fair share of luck. The innings could have ended at any number of points (Oram's plum lbw shout, either of the caught behind shouts, any number of inside/outside edges), and I agree with Vettori that New Zealand would have always backed themselves to get their in the end. Awfully close though...

Also for all the Oram knockers out there, (especially those that suggest Franklin would be a better oneday option), I'd like to point out the following .......

People aren't concerned about his long term efforts over the past 3 years. It's only over the past 12 months that people have started to question him. And with his stats who can blame them?

Batting: Averaging 13.12 at an SR of 70 and a top score of 33*

Bowling: Averaging 40 at an admittedly still valuable economy rate of 4.14.

But our batting is too fragile for Oram to be in the side as a modern day Gavin Larsen. He needs to improve quick.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Either that or put Taylor back at four and play either Franklin, Styris or Stewart at 7.

I had been in favour of moving Ryder down the order, but I have to admit I've changed my mind after he reminded us what he can do in his injury match in the Champions Trophy.

I think Oram's a lock at number 8 in conditions like the UAE or on pitches with a bit of green at home. However if we're dishing up roads where 300 is par then is no longer a certainty IMO - far too easy to hit with his lack of pace and using his height against him. Someone else might be a better option in those conditions.

Ugh, we're stuffed without Vettori at the moment. Can he play as a specialist number 8 batsman in the test series?

Also agree with you on Redmond - managed to stumble through his innings and score a few runs (admittedly with some decent shots from time to time) but overall pretty unconvincing.

Reasonably sure he is second in terms of economy, though averages 6 overs or so a match. Either he shoulders a full ten or hes out IMO. Franklin in the last year has been brilliant domestically but he isn't as good an ODI bowler as Oram. Still one of our most economical in the past year though, a bit less than Mills I think.

This is quite true, although on the other side of the coin Oram's batting comes into play more on good true flat decks..e.g Calton United Series 2007 in Oz
