"Bracewell ran afoul of team policy last season for his love of a taste, and dislike of an early bedtime, and was not seen as much as a result."

So, injury number one to a bowler rated by judges..

Also, what the hell are ND doing? No Martin or Boult, and you could argue that in the interests of NZs national hopes in regards to potential players leaving Davis out and including Aldridge, Yovich et al is not a good idea.

Anton Devcich ahead of Bruce Martin is a surprise.

Not really, considering Devich is really the only opener we have left. Williamson's spin will be good enough anyway. I have no idea why Boult isn't playing though.

Where are you getting that from? In the article it lists the squad as:

Squad: James Marshall (captain), Graeme Aldridge, Trent Boult, Te Ahu Davis, Bruce Martin, Peter McGlashan, Michael Parlane, Bradley Scott, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson, Brad Wilson, Joseph Yovich.
Davis and Martin are both in, along with Boult.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realise the first round starts today and they're not in the team ;). Actually, now am excited - get to have all scorecards open while at work. I see good ol' Ravi is scoring some runs.

Devcich is an opener these days?

I remember him from back in 05/06, allrounder that was a left arm spinner. My mistake, thought they'd decided that Devcichs batting would make up for the fact Martin is streets ahead as a bowler.

Still...

Actualy no, looking at their line up, all of Wilson, Parlane and Marshall can open. Also, if the live scorecard on NZC domestic site has the teams below the scorecard listed in batting order, then Wilson and Parlane are opening with Devcich in at eight.

Unless Martin is injured I disagree with that call.

Grrr

Give Skippy the ball-Ravi's scared of Aussies. :p

McClenaghan or Sherlocks pace would have been useful in shutting him down actualy. They both have their flaws, but at least they could hit Ravi in the head.

McIntosh dealt with by Thompson. Yesss. Now Pinga, a century please.

He is opening. Martin isn't injured, Bradburn decided that they wouldn't need a front-line spinner down there considering what it's like at this time of the year.

The last game he played for ND last season: http://www.cricinfo.com/newzealand/engine/match/371868.html

The team is: BS Wilson, ME Parlane , DR Flynn, JAH Marshall (captain), KS Williamson, PD McGlashan, JAF Yovich, AP Devcich, GW Aldridge, BE Scott, BJ Arnel

Personally out of that I'd go with:

Wilson
Parlane
Flynn
Marshall
Williamson
McGlashan
The rest

which is how its listed. Bradburn can do what he wants I guess.

Bopara out for fifty to Bracewell.

I wonder if Jimmy can tell us about the guy? He's medium pace and seems to be more batting oriented judging by his forays up to opening in List A last season, but thats all I know of. Obviously good enough with the ball to remove Bopara.

I played against him last year in a game against HB. He opened the batting but didn't make too many, 5 or so irrc. He was pretty nippy, I'd say around 130-135 and he got plenty of swing. Strong looking dude though, I'd expect him to get a tad quicker tbh.

You want to replace one NZ batsman with terrible technique with another? :p

Wonder what the wickets around the place are like - a fair few wickets falling early in these matches, except for Wellington so far who are 85/1.

Not neccessarily. Oram and Mills are pretty beasty, but not express speedsters. Guess it depends on what he wants to do with his bowling.

Pretty gutted Anderson gave away the bowling. Being a batsman alone gives guys like Bracewell, Boam and *suck up* Jimmeh Neesham an advantage.

EDIT: Should say neglected. Still bowls.

He can play the hook shot though. :p

Wait, so you would pick a batsmen that bowls a tad to bat at 7/8  Why not just pick Bruce Martin then, a lower order of Yovich, Martin, Scott and Aldridge would be just as effective.
