SA making a decent fist of the chase today when in other seasons they'd have been 4 or 5 down by the close. Optimism for the rest of the season I guess. Nice to see Mass back in the runs but Klinger's form a bit of a worry. He's been out fairly early all season, though; reckon once he spends some time in the middle, he'll come good.

The bowling is a massive worry, though. Losing Cleary shouldn't cripple the team like that.

I had a very relaxing, enjoyable day at the GABBA today.

Couldn't believe Bailey opted to bat first in typical tough first day batting conditions in Brisbane.

First up I've got to say that Doolan doesn't look the part at all, I can't quite work out how Travis Burt is behind him.

Walter was excellent,he reminded me of Mitchell Johnson when he's at his best. He was very accurate and the ball that got out Bailey was a nice inswinger that had him plumb.

Cutting and Swan were both good. The game drifted a bit when the score moved from 8/94 to all out 156. Simpson bowled about 5 overs too many, despite having 2 stumpings missed off his bowling.

Just looking at the scorecard, you can pretty much tell who performed the best for Tasmania batting-wise. Butterworth looked strong as did Geeves and the QLD fielding was very good.

On to the QLD innings and I couldn't believe that Butterworth opened the bowling. Geeves after a fairly average first spell, had a brilliant second spell claiming all of his 3 wickets and MacDonald was also very good making the batsman play often.

Broad dropped on 24 by Butterworth, drove very well and looked like the best batsman. Carseldine didn't move his feet all innings and looked poor.

I think both sides number 3's are very lucky to be playing state cricket, I wasn't too impressed with Townsend who would have to be the shortest player in the comp.

QLD are going to have to bat well to even get first innings points IMO.
Yeah, Walter is a gun.

Give us a yell next time you go to a Shield game.

Haven't been to the Shield for a good few years.

Pretty ordinary effort from the redbaccks, hopefully that can draw the game. It dosen't help when your bowling **** to the victorian batsmen and with all these injuries and an inexperienced attack on the adelaide oval. I think Cosgrove has got a hamstring strain aswell..thats just great..he will be batting today though,

Why is Darren pattinson bowling? is he even in the line-up? dosen't say so on cricket.com.au

I'm guessing that Victoria was allowed to bring a player in to replace McKay, who has to head over to India immediately.

Yeah okay will do. I'll aim to go next shield match if no other plans.

I gotta say when I was watching Swan, Walter and Cutting bowling and knowing Laughlin, Harris, McDermott, Rimmington were in the mix too, I didn't feel bad at all that QLD got rid of Noffke!

Not fair, should have been the 12th man to bowl for McKay. :D

Talk about easy money for Pattinson, though; called up to play one day of a 4-day match and (presumably) will get a full match fee and enjoy the post-hammering celebrations.

Still, much to love about the fight shown by the SA batsmen although the deck would be a road and the conditions pretty hot today.

Bailey must be annoying the **** out of the Vics here.

Should have bowled more in the Vics innings too, you'd think.

Reckon he'd have gotten many more overs had he not been bowling pap, the skipper being quite spin-friendly and all. Speaking of Harris, what a brilliant bit of work to run out Wade yesterday. Always been a decent fielder but that was sensational.

Bulls surging toward 1st innings points.

Just seven runs in arrears, with six wickets in tact.

Kevin Mitchell bettter bloody not still be producing Shield greentops.

Memo to Kevin:

There's 400 ****ing overs in a Shield match mate. That's only 50 less than a Test match! Therefore, a result is likely anyway without you doctoring the thing into a tennis court. Give our young guys at the top of the order (Kruger, Townsend etc) a chance to forge a career FFS.

Rant over.

Nah I don't think it was impossible to bat though yesterday.

* Wells got out playing on with no footwork.
* Cowan's shot was dire, he was playing to leg and I'm not sure if it clipped the pad or bat or went around his legs but it wasn't good.
* Marsh cut a wide ball straight to Broad in the covers.

* Carseldine had no footwork and the ball went between a huge gap between bat and pad to Geeves first ball around the wicket.
* Broad got clean bowled not playing a shot.

I think it was a decent pitch that slightly favoured the bowlers, but no way should 14 wickets had fallen yesterday.

SA haven't lost a wicket today; 2/306, Massive well past his previous best currently on 146 and Cullen Bailey on 89. Think the deck beat Vic today. Currently a 192-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.

What a run fest! Nice captains knock from Harris to secure the draw. Would need 6 days to get a result on that wicket!

Very happy Batticciotto made his ton. And it's great to see Hartley giving the Australian selectors the right kind of headaches.
