I would get rid of either Marsh, Voges or White - leaning towards the exclusion of Marsh tbh. That leaves us with..

1. Watson
2. Manou - means everyone else can stay in positions they are used to.
3. Ponting
4. White
5. Hussey
6. Voges
7. Henriques - extra bowling really.
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Siddle
11. Bollinger
I'm down with this idea. Since i think AUS need 6 bowlers againts INDs batting. But dunno if the selectors would let Manou open.

If Hodge was in this side instead of Voges he could opened, you still could played Henriques & Manou could have stayed @ 7.

Johnson's got more intent than the whole middle order put together bar Hussey. Whatever happens the middle belly of our batting is like pork belly, ready to be torn to shreds and juicily digested by the hungry Indian bowlers.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

that's going a bit over the top ok. Australia is missing a lot of their first choice players

That's a fairly weak batting lineup though, the "tail" effectively starts at 7, and Manou isn't exactly a reliable run-getter either. Much prefer it if we went with the line-up Jack posted, with Bollinger ahead of Hilfenhaus.

Don't let facts get in the way of an unhealthy dose of optimism.

I wonder how pessimistic Inbox would be if he/she hadn't found God. Would be at a apocalyptic level.

Yep it sure is a fairly weak batting lineup, but that's what happens when Haddin, Clarke, Ferguson et al aren't included and our bowling attack has just been smashed for 350 odd.

Henriques at 7 is a straight swap for Hopes, so the only weaker spot really is that Manou isn't as capable with the bat as Haddin or Paine. Having Johnson at 8 and Hauritz at 9 helps too.

Henriques has opened for NSW so hes another option and if Hopes is fit he also is another. And if they really want to throw a spanner in the works then Johnson would be capable. I brought it up a while ago and I'm still in the green for that move. This is all assuming Marsh isn't picked, if he is he will open without doubt.

Ponting seems very keen to have Henriques in, so possibly Australia will go in with two debutants:

Watson
Marsh
Ponting
White/Voges
Hussey
Henriques/Hopes
Johnson
Manou
Lee/Hilfenhaus
Hauritz
Siddle

It would be a tough call dropping White because he's been good recently, but they will probably want to keep Voges for his spin, and Marsh for his opening. Unless Hopes is fit, because then he could open. Or perhaps they really will go with Johnson up there, but I don't think so because then that leaves them missing lower-order hitters, especially if Lee isn't fit again.

It's confirmed there will be no Lee or Hopes for the next match.

If Henriques is in it should be:
Watson
Johnson ()
* Ponting
White
Hussey
Voges
+ Manou
Henriques
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger

Otherwise:
Watson
Marsh
* Ponting
White
Hussey
Voges
+ Manou
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger

I'd lean towards the batting heavy one, Watson and Voges are perfectly capable of sending down 10 overs if Watto is in the mood
Maybe even White could chip in an over or two

Oz paying the penalty for agreeing to a money series when they should be at home preparing for another summer of cricket

Just read on Cricinfo that Manou's partner is Tamsyn Lewis. Had no idea.
Yeah I only found that out during the Ashes, no idea how they met but good luck to them.

It is pretty funny/sad that White isn't getting a bowl when 12 months ago he was considered the fourth bowler and batting at 8 in the Test matches at the same location.

What's with Australian cricketers and blondes? Not that I'm complaining, but it looks like a barbie parade everytime I see a bunch of them.
