Jadeja would have come in at seven in any other situation than the final few overs though, tbf.I detect a distinct lack of Mishy. Jadeja, batting at 9, picked instead.

How often does the number 7 come in with more than a few overs left, though? Particularly in India.Jadeja would have come in at seven in any other situation than the final few overs though, tbf.

I am, in no way supporting, the inclusion of Jadeja over Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan or even Yusuf Pathan, I'll make that clear now. However, it is not unfeasible to send in more accomplished hitters ahead of your number seven. It can be seen that a duck (or 4 off 4) in the name of slogging is, of more value than coming in at 9 and not batting, but the overall result is similar. Moreover, I do believe that the number seven role is crucial in ODIs and that the middle order batting through 95% of the innings is not such a regular occurance that the number seven becomes a useless position.I support Jadeja playing ahead of Pathan right now but I am with Uppercut here (sorry Manee for disagreeing with you again), if you play Jadeja, you have to bat him higher up the order.
You'd be surprised.I think unless there's a collapse, which given the quality of this batting lineup would be highly uncharacteristic,
Yes, would agree with that. The lack of a genuine all rounder makes it difficult to fill the number seven spot though, and so I partially empathise with Dhoni's selection. Yusuf Pathan should have been given more goes, in my personal opinion, but it is fair enough that Dhoni felt that he'd had enough chances; Nayar is not quite up to international cricket; there is no reason yet to believe that Irfan Pathan has improved his bowling and Rajat Bhatia will surely get taken apart in ODIs - we just do not have any good all rounders.Jadeja is a bit surplus to requirements. I wouldn't be especially keen to send him in ahead of Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Dhoni, Yuvraj or Raina, surely?
May as well bring in a slogger or an extra bowler. Shame, because Jadeja's a useful player, but he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole.
was Mike Proctor.. u can chk it.. can't find the link now.. at work.Hilarious. Never heard about it till before this. Link?
Yes, would have personally gone in with Mishra instead of Praveen or Ishant and played Kohli (from the squad, he is not my number 1 choice) instead of Jadeja. But the bowling is weakened. So you gotta play Mishy.
Irfan Pathan's bowling is of no use whatsoever and it is felt that nor is Yusuf's batting.Y Pathan or I Pathan would fit the number 7 role a lot better than Jadeja wouldn't they? The top 6 is far too strong to be looking for a genuine batsman.
